When I open Windows Mail, the initial mail icon opens, and it shows running in the task manager. However the program itself does not show up on my screen.

I know it's running because I heard the beep I get when new email is downloaded.
Also my popup appeared that asked me if I wanted to open my junk folder. when I click yes, I still don't see anything.

So it's running but I can't see anything. I tried tabbing between folders to see if the program was minimized somewhere & it doesn't show up in windows tabs as being open
(I thought maybe I moved it off the screen somehow and just can't see it)



So basically I need to know how to be able to see windows mail again.

I ended the process in task manager.

I have my virus software firewall and email scans disabled

That doesn't appear to be the problem.
The tutorial says
Right click on the offscreen window's tab on the taskbar.


I don't have an offscreen window's tab. Plus in the task manager it doesn't say it is running under applications, yet it says it is running under the processes.

Is there another reason why the program would appear to be running but not show up.

Again I can hear emails download

also the little mail symbol (envelope) appears on the bottom right side, it does nothing when I click on it, when I hover my cursor over it, it says I have new mail)

I mentioned in my first post that I already did that.

I did it again anyway & it doesn't work.

The deal is Windows Mail functions as if it is open, only I can't see it. And it is not off the window. It's invisible.

What's odd is if I go through explore and the program file, and then open
WinMail manually I get an error message. I'm going to investigate that error message.
It says it thinks another program is tied to the inbox file. Although I did disable my virus software. I'll try again.

I managed to fix the problem.
Not sure what combination of things actually worked for me.

But between disabling the virus protection, running scandisk, and deleting the winmail reg keys in regedit (to let Vista rebuild winmail when it restarted). It works again.

I've always had McAffee disabled for email scans, etc... but I think I had click on an update for the program. Everything I read about Winmail is that Norton and McAffee eventually end up hurting the mail system.

So I'm all set.
