IE 9 problem.

I installed IE 9 and immediately had problems. My McAfee Internet Security window was affected, principally in that the - & X shrink and close functions on the top were missing and also my Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 did not work properly.

I contacted McAfee and they told me to download IERegFix.bat off their web site, but all I got was a page of code when I clicked on their link with no way of downloading it.

McAfee then told me to uninstall IE 9 and see if that solved the matter as IE 8 would then reinstall, which it did and McAfee worked as before and so did Elements 5. I then tried McAfee's site for downloading IERegFix.bat and that now worked too.

Surely IE 9 should work with these programs as there seems little point in Microsoft bringing out IE 9 if it conflicts with McAfee Internet Security software, let alone Photoshop Elements? Has anybody else had any trouble with these and IE 9?

Welcome Dave
May I suggest that in lieu of Mcafee, you use Microsoft Security Essentials. It is excellent protection and is free. Yes, I know you paid for Mcafee, but that money is gone, if you use MSE or not.
The only AV that I know of that has not caused any problems, to date, is MSE. It is made especially for windows.
For even greater protection, download and use Malearebytes, one of the best software for detection of Malware.
The above is what I and many other members use.

Thanks Richard, I may try that. But surely IE 9 ought to be compatible with all the major Internet Security programs on the market, particularly as Internet Explorer 8 seemed to be? That also does not solve Adobe Photoshop Elements not working with IE 9 though it did with IE 8. Adobe Photoshop and Elements are the major image processing software used by the bulk of amateur and professional photographers, so any conflict with IE 9 would be a problem.

Now that you've downloaded IERegFix.bat using IE8, did you try running it after installing IE9?

Firstly let me say I am only a 70 year old computer user and not really into the complex mechanics of computers, if it works and does what I need that's all I want.

No I did not need to use IERegFix.bat and I am now again using IE 8 rather than IE 9.

I followed McAfee's advice and uninstalled IE 9 using "View Installed Updates", found IE 9 and uninstalled it. McAfee told me after restarting my computer that would put back IE 8 and to see if things were back to normal, if not download and use IERegFix.bat. Simply uninstalling IE 9 worked and everything was back to normal plus Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 also worked again.

As I did not add or remove any attachments, I therefore presume both IE 8 and IE 9 were using the same attachments so it was IE 9 causing the problems?

This was the site McAfee gave to download IERegFix.bat:-

http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/IERegFix.bat

This link did not work under IE 9 as it just came up as a page of code (see attached screen shot) with no method to download I could find, but worked again under IE 8 when I tried it.

I still do not see though why everything that works OK under IE 8 should not under IE 9?
