Can't print attachments from email

I overwrote my software to bring it back to factory settings. I had some kind of virus. All is well except for the fact that I can't print email attachments. I use Windows Live and Gmail. I can print pictures off a web site ok. I have a Dell 1545 Inspiron Laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit. By the way...my skill level on a 1-5 scale with 5 being the highest I am a 1 "maybe" I would appreciate any and all help.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum.

First did you reformatt the hard drive when re-intalling your software. Do you have the full version or recovery disk's.

1. Please do one more full up-dated virus scan using your Anti-Virus...

2. Please download and run a full scan using malwarebytes, free version
Malwarebytes : Free anti-malware, anti-virus and spyware removal download

Your security software depending on what you have will not show any malware, thats why you ned to run the malwarebytes, after doning these scans then post back so we know that your system is free from all, then we can repair your system printer, etc.

Thanks for the reply. I did what you suggested with Malwarebytes and my Anti-Virus ( Mc Afee )
( First did you reformatt the hard drive when re-intalling your software )
I am sorry but I don't know how to do that and I have a disk that is the Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit SP1 and a Drivers and Utilities disc. I think that is what your looking for???. I have printed info off my emails since my post just to keep checking that I can and I can, just no attachments. Any info you need from me just ask and if I can understand it I will get it for you.

Thanks much

Jim

A work-around .... for now.

Save your attachment to a folder of your choice > go to the folder > open the attachment > then try to print it.

That was a good idea, but I am sorry it still would not print. FYI. I went to Control Panel and under printers I right clicked and ran as administrator. I tried to print a test page, but that did not work either.

Suggestion only :

Go to your Programs and Features > uninstall your printer > exit programs and Features.

Insert your printer CD > re-install the printer.

Hello Jim..

I think you should check to make sure all of your drivers are up to date...

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/193584-device-manager-install-driver.html

Click Start...
In the search box type: Device Manager...
Click view...
Click show hidden devices...

Make sure that there is NO yellow warning flags next to any of your drivers.

Also disconnect your printer from your computer, then reconnect the printer sometimes this works...

Make sure that the printer is set to your computer as Default Printer...

Hi,
Once you have completed the excellent suggestions by americancritic and you are still having problems.

On your Inspiron 1545 do you have downloaded the updated version of Dell Support Centre? It should already have reloaded it after factory reset.
If not go to this link & download it:-
http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/services/en/dsc_home?c=us&l=en
It is a useful piece of software.

Thank you.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you I had to go out of town. I kow how to uninstall the printer, but when you said to insert the printer CD... do you mean the disk I have that says " Drivers and Utilities " then at the bottom of the label on the disk it says " For reinstalling Dell Inspiron 1545 Computer Software ". I don't have a disk that just says Printer CD. Are we talking about the same thing. Sorry my skill level is so low. And to kesume and americancritic thanks for the tips and I have tried those suggestions. Again, thanks to everyone for trying to help.

Sinse you have no printer disk, Try the following...

1. Click Start...
2. Click control Panel...
3. Under hardware and sound Click Printers...
4. Click add printer...
5. Click add a local printer...

americancritic,

Thanks for responding. I did what you suggested but no change. I want to restate my problem since I am not very skilled with computers. My printer will work and receive the signal from my wireless laptop to print a page off of ebay as a example. The problem is I can't print any emails that I get. So I know the printer is working...I just can't figure out why it won't print emails.

Thanks
Jim
