Solved Import Favorites - Not importing

Hi All

I apologize if this has been discussed, however I could not find a thread related to my problems.

After being infected with the Vista Internet Security virus, (that's another story) my favorites are now all messed up.

When I click on Favorites in IE8, it lists old Favorites. When I open my bookmark.htm which is located in C:/Users/Guardianangel, all the correct Favorites are listed.

I've importing them several times, from the User folder, its says its completed, however no changes area made, it continues to list the old favorites.

When I click on Organize Favorites, the "correct" folders are listed.

I can see the correct Favorites in C:/Users/Guardianangel/Documents/Favorites

I searched bookmarks.htm and found two, one in C:/Users/Guardianangel/Documents and another one in Guardianangel/Documents. They are both the same .htm file.

I do not see a bookmark.htm with the old bookmarks, (I changed my file view to show hidden files)

I reset my IE8 back to the original default, and now both the Favorite and Organize favorites are both old. However, the bookmark.htm folders list the correct favorites, and the Favorite Folder lists all the correct folders.

Is having the two htm files messing it up? if so, which one do I delete? Is there a way to delete all favorites without having to delete one at a time.

I appreciate any help!!!

Welcome
Try to export to a finger drive etc and then try to import from there.
If that does not work update to IE9, that should work.

ditch IE for chrome or firefox.

Or just use trial and error, make a .bak of one and delete the copy (of the original .htm). if that doesn't work change the file extension back and do the same .bak for the other one

Thanks Rich, I tried that, it didn't work. I have the same favorites on another laptop which I saved to memory stick, and uploaded it to the problem laptop. I will try the different extention suggestion that R16 suggested.

It has to be coming from somewhere that I can't see because if I go to my C drive Favorite folders, the folders are all there in the order I used to have them. (and the way I want them!) There were also other links, that I deleted just to see if it would refresh, however when I go to IE Favorites, those links are still there, along with others. If I make a new folder in my IE Favorites, it says there's already one named the same, but it isn't in the list.

When I search Favorites folders, I come up with the one that I want, I can't find a folder of Favorites that match up with the IE8. Very frustrating.

Thanks for the help, its appreciated.

Thanks for all the help, I just wiped it all and reinstalled. It wasn't worth the headaches and time spent. Everything was fine, then other issues started.

FYI Vista Internet Security Virus, major PITA! :sarc:
