Windows Mail won't receive attachments

G'day,

It's two problems, really, and I don't know if they might be related. I recently installed IE9 and since then I can no longer receive attachments via Windows Mail. I have checked all my settings and cleared the cache and nothing works. At the same time IE9 will not ask if I want to remember log-in details. Old details that were imported from IE8 work still work fine but I can not add new ones that will be remembered. Again, I cleared the cache, etc. It's extremely annoying, especially the problem with the attachments. Would someone help me out, please?

Cheers,
Fritz

Reply to your first question : I can no longer receive attachments via Windows Mail

If you know an e-mail you received should have an attachment, DOUBLe click the e-mail > it will open in its own windows and you will see the " paper clip ".
It is a know bug. I don't recall seeing a permenant " fix " for that.

Since Microsoft has sent WM to the green pastures, I would suggest that you " upgrade : to Windows Live Mail which is meant to replace Windows Mail.
Windows Live Mail ( WLM ) is a free program.
It will co-exist with WM. You don't have to give WM up. But you'll need to name one as your default.
WLM, upon installing, will aotomatically transfer all your messages, contacts etc from WM to WLM. You don't have to do Export/Import procedures.

There are 2 WLM versions to choose from.........
Windows Live Mail 2011 version download :
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-mail?os=other

Windows Live Mail 2009 version download :
http://www.filehippo.com/download_windows_live_mail/8305/

Don't understand your 2nd question. If you care to clarify.

Thanks, t-4-2, that works fine to see the attachments. I didn't know about the bug. I'll take a look at WLM. Which would you recommend?

As for the second question; when I visit a site for the first time and enter my log-in details, (user name, password), normally IE asks if I would like to save those details. It doesn't ask. I reset the parameters to default and it began to work fine until about the 4th site and then abruptly stopped asking again. That's the problem and I can't figure it out.

Cheers,
Fritz

RE : Windows Mail and attachments
I have added further info in my first reply. Please read it again.
If you do not want to switch to WM, the next alternative is to uninstall IE9.
Upone uninstalling of IE9, the system will automatically revert back to IE8 ( or its previous IE version ).

How to uninstall IE9.....

Start > in search box, type Programs and Features > > press Enter key > left column, select View Installed Updates > scroll to find Windows Internet Explorer 9 > right click > Uninstall.

I don't have answer to your 2nd question.

RE : which WM version to choose from....

I am using WLM 2009 version myself.
I tried the 2011 version, did not like it and swiched back to 2009.
For one very significant reason : WLM layout is very much similar to WM which I was using for 3 years. So, there is hardly any thing new to learn, other than the stupid switch from Send/Receive buton to Sync button.

In 2011 version, they change the layout and I had to learn the new ways to look for the options.
The procedures ( step-by-step, therefore, is also different.)

So, for users like you, being used to WM, 2009 WLM would be a smooth transition.

Seems to be a problem with 9. Seems others are having the same problem, its hit and miss with the passwords.

Ok, thanks, guys. If you hear of a fix...

Appreciate your help, thanks again.

1 As mentioned before, there is no " fix " to your WM issue as Microsoft has " shelved " WM. You just have to migrate to a different e-mail client.

2. As mentioned before, uninstall IE9 and revert back to your previous IE version, or try out a different browser. You don't have to stick with IE9.

Sorry for the confusion, I understand about Windows Mail, I can now see the attachments and open them thanks to your help and I will no doubt change programs eventually. What I meant was, if anyone hears of a fix for the password problem in IE9, give a shout. Sure I can use FireFox but I really don't like it. IE8 still works fine. Just looking to fix IE9 if possible.

Cheers and thanks again,
Fritz
