Hello,
I have been puzzling for days regarding security settings to enable me to download printer dirvers.
I have tried everything, well I thought I had, but I am still without printing facilities.....
I have a vista 32bit home preium on IE7.

Grateful for any advice. Many thanks.:(

Welcome
The defualt settings will allow downloads. Can you describe the problem, what you are doing and what the result is. Maybe, I can help.
Many experience problems with downloads and rarely is it due to the browser.

Thank you for replying to my plight.
I am trying to download printer drivers for my samsung printer.
I am running zonealarm pro which I disabled. Disabled my user account in vista.
In the internet options I have disabled protected mode, shifted all default levels to zero.
I thought it was something to do with the customer levels in all the sites, so I have played around with these.
Though a while ago I aslo had trouble trying to download an anti virus program, to no avail. So I can't download any file. I have also added these sites to trusted zones etc.
So I have tried most things, but perhaps not in the right combination. if that if possible.
Then when I go to the site to download file, I still get a message telling me my security settings will not let me download file.

Lets try one thing at a time.
Go to the website of the printer and save to the desktop.
Unattach everything except the monitor, keyboard and mouse. Yes unattach the printer too.
Then go to desktop click and try to download, it will tell you when to attach printer.
If that does not work try the same scenario with this administrator.

It could be that the browser is outdated. Download the most current browser IE9
Disable the firewall and anti virus. Go only to the website of the driver. Then attach everything when download is complted.
Did you try from device manager?

Problem is the disc is for xp, for my sins i am now using vista. If I were to download IE9,
does it affect any settings or are there any risks and do I pick it up from internet?

Actually, even if you forget the printer, you should have IE9. It offers better security against virus and malware and it has a lot of new features. It takes a small bit of learning, like with anything new, but its really nice.
I would download it and then try the drivers.
Make sure that you read and try all the suggestions that I have given, if IE9 does not download the driver.
In addition if IE9 does not work, you can download and try it with Firefox.
Internet Explorer downloads - Microsoft Windows
Also try from Device manager.
