Search results forward to spam sites

Hi all,

I have a problem with attempting to search at the moment. Whenever I attempt a search with any search engine, with any browser on my computer, clicking on any of the results automatically forwards me to spam sites such as strange search engines, pages with advertising, etc.

I have done a virus check with AVG (which has never given me any problems in the past), I have also used Malwarebyte's Anit-malware which got rid of 7 infections and also used Revo Uninstaller to check for anything that may not have been uninstalled properly and it found nothing.

Can anyone suggest anything else that I could use to check and find whatever is causing this?

I will need a direct link as I can't search for anything (luckily I remembered the address for this forum!).

Yours unable-to-search-ably,

Hello and welcome to the forum.

1. Run a full updated virus scan using your system anti-virus...

2. You might want to change your anti-virus to MSE.

http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-security/mse.aspx
MSE is a lot better and it's free..

Please let us know the results...

Which broswer do you use...

I had a problem with that a while back and it crippled a laptop. Unfortunately that laptop got stolen before we could solve the problem. But some time after that I started having a similar issue with my laptop and just used a restore point right away. That solved it. If you have a restore point from before you started having this issue (I'd even go for a week before the issue started just to be safe) I highly recommend you use it immediately. You can try your hand at different antivirus software to remove it, but a restore point is is your best bet and basically guaranteed to work the first time. If you don't know how to use a restore point see this thread: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/76905-system-restore-how.html

Usually have low HD free space left (<10 GB), often left on overnight. I really push its capabilities.
Right. I have run a full system scan using Zonealarm Internet Security Suite and it has picked up nothing. I also ran Malwarebyte's program again and it again, picked up nothing. I attempted to install MSE, but for some reason it would not install and gave no hints as to why.

I am unable to do a system restore as there aren't any on my system.

However, when I was un-installing AVG, I noticed that it said the install date was the 5th August, so it seems that it could have been related to that - I have not had any problems since with searching either.

Thanks for all your help.
