Win Mail configuring

Can Windows Mail be configured to only send mail and not recieve mail ? I am using Vista and Win Mail. The reason I want to do this is that I use two PCs, one Vista with Win Mail and one with Win 7 and Win Live Mail. My printer does not recognize Live Mail so the scan-email function does not work. I want to use the Vista machine to do this but I don't want it to download all my old mail off the server.
Thanks

Should be simple go to settings and remove the settings to receive. Those are the pop3 settings. If it does not work properly, set up another email account that has pop3, use that as the settings. You will not have mail in that account, so you will not receive any.

Thanks Rich. Please explain what you mean by "set up another account that has pop 3, use that as settings".

Sure Ben, Ill give you mine

Go to gmx.com and set up an account. I can give you the correct settings. Put them in the area for, receive in live mail settings area.

pop.gmx.com are the setting for incoming.

GMX is one of the best email providers and its free. You may want to make it your regular email and the present one your secondary.

If it does not work, it is probably some other setting. Let me know either way.
I should have mentioned, I removed my email username, before posting, you must have the name on yours.

Hi Richc, When I tried setting up a webmail account, I got an error message that Windows Mail on Vista machines no longer supports webmail accounts and they suggested installing Windows live mail which does support web mail accounts. I have that on my Win 7 Live mail machine but what I am trying to do is to be able to use my Vista Win Mail machine to send messages so that my printer will work in the scan email function which it will do in Vista Win Mail but not Win 7 Live mail. When I install my regular email account on both machines, the Vista machine starts down loading all of my old mail from the server which are already on the Win 7 machine. I guess what I want to know is, if there is a way to get Vista Win mail configured to send messages but not receive messages. Sorry to be so much trouble, I appreciate your help.
Ben

Ben
I understand your objective, but the primary problem is that everything that I know about computers is either learned from this website or from my personal experience. Your situation is unique. I know that with the two of us we can outwit the dumb computer, but how.
I think that possibly you can get around your problem by not using Windows Mail with Vista, there are many free alternatives.

I would suggest Thunderbird which you would set up in the same fashion that I explained in my prior post.
The problem may be that with two WM accounts they act in the same manner.

richc,
I decided to try your original suggestion before installing Thunderbird. I installed Win Mail on my Vista machine but when I got to pop3, I entered "none" then entered the smtp like always. Like a miracle it worked, it will now send but not receive. Then I tried my scan and forward function and it worked perfectly. It looks like you solved my problem !!!!!!! Thanks,
Ben

Glad that it got sorted, Ben. We both learned with this one.
