    IE9 problem with ActiveX filtering

On some sites, when I click the little blue circle to turn off ActiveX filtering, nothing happens.

I was trying to shop on JC Penney tonight and some of the merchandise photos wouldn't show. It's not like I'm on some viscious, terrible site because that is not the case -- ever -- with me.

Same thing on Amazon. Some of the product pages have little videos on them. I might be able to watch the first one by clicking the blue circle and turning off ActiveX filtering, and the next page I go to it won't work. The video will just go on forever trying to load.

And while I am at it, my goodness this version of IE is slow, slow, slow. I opened my Firefox tonight and updated it to version 7 and it is so much faster than IE9 that it would literally be eating Firefox' dust in a side-by-side. Is there anything that will help this?

I'm not an IE fan, in fact I loathe it on so many levels, so I'm just now around to installing v 9 so I haven't tested it yet. You can try reverting back to 8 or even better 7 but that could lead to system instability considering how deeply rooted it is into the OS. Try this. Click on the wheel button and select internet options. Make sure that the slider is set for medium high or maybe just medium. Let us know if it works after that. As for the performance, there's not much I know of to help but I might be wrong.

It was already set on Med. High. Could the Silverlight have anything to do with it. I am totally lost when it comes to this stuff, but under manage add ons I have the Shockwave Flash and Java enabled, and it seems to me I read somewhere that the Microsoft Silverlight is supposed to replace those. To tell you the truth, I didn't even know I had Microsoft Silverlight installed. Perhaps it installed automatically with IE9.

I was going to go back to Firefox, but RoboForm won't work there and I literally DEPEND on that program. Also, in IE9 I was able to use HP Smart Print by installing the HP Bing Bar. Previously I had the HP Smart Web Printing which I loved. But in any event, I use these tools a lot. I could find nothing like this for Firefox to replace the Print Edit I was using before upgrading to v. 6 and now 7.

Click on advanced and then restore advanced settings and restart IE.

By v 6 do you mean IE v 6? Vista ships with 7 so you couldn't have had 6 on Vista.

No, I meant Firefox 6 and then updated to 7 tonight. I tried restoring advanced settings and must restart to see if it had any effect. Thanks.

Wow! Wish I had known I was going to lose things and I wouldn't have done that. I no longer have my Bing Bar or my HP Smart Printer. When I open Manage Add Ons they are there and they are enabled, but they are gone on my browser. Any ideas?

Guess I will know better next time. I also lost KeyScrambler too. Everything is in the Manage Add Ons section and is enabled, but nothing works. Guess I might as well start uninstalling and then reinstalling everything.

I could be wrong but I don't think that kind of reset would mess up your toolbars. Sorry about that.

Not a problem. You were trying to help me. Sometimes I get mad at myself because I feel there are times when I should leave well enough alone, but just have to keep plugging away and sometimes end up in more trouble than I started with.

I did a system restore back to yesterday and got it back. Nothing else I tried worked. Guess I'll just leave things alone and if the ActiveX filter causes me too many problems I'll just use Firefox when I run into them.

    Thank you.
