They are pretty similar and just because it might work doesn't mean that Adobe didn't program it not to work.

Is anyone else using Vista 64 with Flash 11? I'm still not getting it to work.

    I don't use Vista 64-bit.

    Well, I got it working.

Solution: Turn off Adobe Update service, under...

Control Panel >> Administrative Tools >> Services >> Adobe Flash Player Update Service - set to "disable"

My problem was after uninstalling, reinstalling, rebooting and trying out IE and Chrome, I could get it working for a few minutes, and then suddenly Flash pages would stop working altogether, saying I needed to update my Flash player.

It occurred to me that if it worked for a few minutes and then suddenly did not, there must be some background or hidden service telling Flash Player not to work on purpose, and lo and behold, 'tis true.

The Updater service eventually turns off Flash Player 11 on Vista 64 for no particularly good reason. In my case, just a few minutes. Once I disabled that, I've been all good. Maybe that is part of the reason why Adobe's Flash download page lists that Vista 64 is no longer supported? Maybe they have problems getting the updater to work right under 64-bit Vista and XP...I dunno. Anyway, turn off the updater service, and you'll be good for now, if you are having problems like I did.

I've had no similar problems - mine has been updating merrily all along but that's because you should be using the 32-bit IE not the 64-bit one, despite having a 64-bit Vista. 64-bit browsers are really a bit of a novelty still as many add-ons/plug-ins aren't yet compatible.

    I never said I was using a 64-bit browser.

Chrome isn't even available for Windows as 64-bit.

Glad your not having any issues. I'm not either, anymore. That's only because I disabled Adobe's updater service (see above).

Then it's rather strange that it's updating quite merrily on my machine and not yours, don't you think? (As recently as yesterday in fact).

Maybe because I already had it installed?

Re: Adobe suddenly DROPS Vista64 support?

This get even more curious, I just downloaded the installer and installed over the top of the already working one and I got the usual Adobe page, Flash installed successfully. It shows enabled in add-ons in both IE9 and FF8.

Also curious there isn't any announcement on their forums that I can find...maybe I need to look harder perhaps but my first search produced nothing concrete.

Yes, Ex, it is very odd. But what can I say.

Even now, here's what I get when I visit Adobe's Flash Player page. Read the smaller yellow note in the middle of the page

However, I still got it to work as long as I immediately disabled the Updater service after installation.
