Frustration With Exporting WM to Outlook 2010

I have spent at least 6 hours over the past 3 days trying to export Windows Mail to Outlook 2010. I know that WM stores mail as *.eml and Outlook stores them as *.pst. I even know where the paths to each of those files and folders are in Windows. Windows Explorer and I have spent a lot of time together lately.

I have Google searched many threads, downloaded freeware utilities that supposedly will do this with ease and tried the built-in export feature of Windows Mail. Nothing has worked so far.

Here's what I have. I am running Vista Home Premium x64. I recently installed MS Office Pro 2010. I have been using Windows Mail that came with it for a long time. I would like to move/copy/export all mail from WM to Outlook 2010 and just use Outlook from now on. This is all on the same PC.

When I try to use the Export feature of WM and I select the Microsoft Exchange it gives a MAPI error. I can export the mail as messages (only other option) but that doesn't help with getting it over to Outlook.

I have tried doing this when Outlook was configured as the default email. I tried doing it with WM as the default email. I tried it with Outlook running in the background. I tried it without Outlook running in the background. I have configured Outlook to d/l mail from my server and it works fine for sending and receiving messages.

I ran across some commercial utilities that claim to do what I want but they cost more than the $9.95 price I paid for MS Office 2010 (company discount) :D. I'm a little leery about buying some software for this anyway, since the freeware utilities weren't any help.

Anyone care to offer some tips that I haven't tried yet? Thanks.

Quick thought, I'm not at my pc so this may not be possible or make any difference, but have you tried importing into windows live mail and importing from there into outlook 2010?
