Windows Mail Quit Sending/Receiving

:( Help! I have a laptop w/Windows Vista and after years, my Windows Mail suddenly quit receiving and sending. I can look, but that's it.

The error message I got is:

Account 'Windows Mail', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR invalid command', Port: 995, Secure (SSL): Yes, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

My connections are good, I'm not aware of any viruses, I made no system changes and I am the only user. Could someone please help solve this mystery? I would reeeally appreciate it! Amateur User :)

Welcome

The first thing to try is to go to the email website and make sure that they did not change any of the ports, etc.
If there is no problem, I would believe that it is a password error. Check that your password is correct. If it is close Windows Mail, boot the computer and open mail. Does it work now?

No, then turn off your antivirus email scanning. Boot and try again

I'm not sure what you mean by ports.

The only time I need to put in my password is when I turn the laptop on and log in to open it to everything I use and that's working fine.

I have turned the laptop off and on for the last week, since it stopped working on Jan 27, and that has not fixed the Windows Mail. I still get the same error message. Doesn't it reboot when I turn it off and on?

I have an anti-virus scan program for the entire laptop. Is there a separate one for just the email? If not, do you mean me to shut off the anti-virus scan for everything? That could allow bigger problems beside the email not working, right?

You indicate that you are using Windows Mail. You also show the ports 995. Sometimes the email provider changes the port numbers. Go to your email web service, get all the information to set it up and we will check to see if it is correctly set up, now.
