Another POP error message

Every time I receive mail I get this POP error:

protocol:pop3, server responce:'-err inactivity timeout', port: 110, secure(ssl): no, server error: 0x800ccc90, error number: 0x800ccc90

It doesn't stop the mail coming through and I can send with no trouble.

(and my Yahoo mail never shows it.)

As it still works I am not going to try to fix it (as the old saying goes).
I am just curious as to why it happens.

Hello wiliami and welcome to Vista Forums.

Without giving out any private info, it would help to know what program you are using to POP your mail? For example are you using the Yahoo app that pops email or something else.

POP mail is different than Web Mail in that pop mail saves the mail to your computer and web mail saves the mail on the web server of the mail provider. It would help to know how you are POPing the mail?

Cheers!

Hi Robert.

Sorry for the delay in answering your swift responce.
The POP error message only occurs when I call up Windows Mail.
Sometimes it saves to my computer and sometimes it doesn't.
My Yahoo Mail works perfectly.
Like any intelligent IT ignoramous I see the letters POP and quickly move on.
(POP is in the country on the other side of my IT Pons Asinorum along with many other terms.)

That would seem to be the answer to the errors you are receiving. Microsoft stopped supporting any software that POPed mail some time ago when they went to "Windows Live Mail." Microsoft software only supports "Web Mail" now.

You can still POP your Windows Mail, but you must use third party software like Thunderbird. POPing mail with the aid of Yahoo is also using third party software.

Continuing to use outdated, unsupported software that no longer functions correctly will continue to give you errors.

Cheers!
Robert
