Hi,My neighbours laptop which has Vista 32bit sp1 has a problem with IE9,
upon opening IE9 the google page shows the alert "internet explorer has
stopped working".
Other times the google page shows, but if i click a website link the "internet
explorer has stopped working" pops up again.
I thought i'd try and and upgrade to IE11 to try and fix it but can't find a version
for Vista (have microsoft stopped supporting Vista?).
Grateful for any help with this problem.

First of all Vista should have SP2 installed to be current and supported. Microsoft have stopped supporting Vista with anything LESS than SP2 installed. So make sure Windows is totally up to date, especially browsers and their add-ons.
If you need help with installing SP2 I made a sort of tutorial over at the McAfee Security forums where I am a moderator so take a look at that for hints and useful links: https://community.mcafee.com/thread/2019

Secondly IE10/11 are only for Windows 7 and above, so IE9 is the highest available for Vista.

Try resetting IE9 to see if it helps. Open it and go to Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and click Reset. There will be prompts, OK all those and apply the change.
Close and reopen IE and go to Tools/Manage add-ons and re-enable any you need.

You could also try another browser, Firefox for instance or if you don't mind a very simple interface, Chrome.

If the owner likes IE you might try a quick fix and try MaxThon browser. It uses the IE engine and has been multi-tabbed for years. Try it as a test. If it works maybe the pesron will just keep using it and you'll be off the hook. :)

Thanks for the replies. While i was trying to find a fix for my neighbours IE9
i installed the latest stable Firefox for her which is working fine.
I don't have access to laptop at the moment, but when i do i'll update Vista
to sp2 and try to reset IE9.
I'll get back later to let you know the results.

OK and good luck with SP2. It's a fairly hefty update and I recommend downloading it (link given) and saving it to the desktop first, then right-click Properties and Unblock (if blocked) and then install from that but disable antivirus first as it causes so many failures. Anyway that link has some hints and help links in it.
