Solved No Windows Live Mail (on my PC)

Hi

I have been using Windows Live Mail since it came out, on this PC, my Laptop, and my other W8.1 PC.

Today, on this Vista PC (fully updated) I clicked on the shotrcut and Windows Live Mail 2011 Start Screen came up as usual, then I got an error box saying something like "Cannot start WLM, it may not be installed properly or you may not have enough memory". (I'm sorry but I do not have the actual message as WLM is no longer installed so I cannot start it).

I rebooted and retried several times, I did a Memory Diagnostics extended test and a Memtest and all RAM tests passed.

I uninstalled Windows Live Essentials and tried to reinstall Live Essentials 2011 but it only updates Mail not Windows Live Mail, now I do not have Windows Live Mail.

How do I get Windows Live Mail back?

Thanks

Daniel

If you update Live Essentials, whatever the mail is called, it is merely the most up to date of what you had. There will only be slight modifications to what you are use to. It will not be a be a problem. That being said if you want live mail, you must install the most current version. If you want another email client, you have a big choice, Endora, Thunderbird and more.

Hi

I don't understand, WLM comes with Live Essentials, the error message said I had memory or install issues, since I did not have memory issues I figured there was an install problem, I did try a repair install but that did not work so I
uninstalled and when I tried to reinstall WLM was not an option, only "Mail" was an option, this is different to the previous installs I had done on my other devices Live Mail was an option.

I completed the install process and Windows Live Mail does not appear on this PC but Windows mail does but that is a poor fifth cousin.

Cheers

I went to the Essentials site just to see what was happening. You are correct they are offering what is now know as mail. I do not know if it is a fifth cousin or what. I just know that is what is being offered and the only thing that anyone can get from that site. Once you uninstall it is gone, you must accept what is currently available.. I will search to try to find some other safe site for WLM, but am not hopeful. As with everything else, change is not always for the better.

Hi

that is a web link to Essentials 2012 which does not/will not install on Vista,
and essential 2011 now has Mail only.

it seems MS is driving everyone to Thunderbird or other email clients.

The problem with Windows "Mail" is that it does not have a seperate inbox for different accounts, or if it does I cannot see how to set that up, I and my wife have four email addresses so Mail is not an option unless I can figure out
how to get different Inbox/Sent boxes.

Cheers

MS is catering to Windows 8, which is quite different from Vista or Seven. I guess the new mail, serves the 8 users well at the expense of Vista users, sorry.

Well I hated doing this but I installed Thunderbird, sorry MS but I'm not paying for W7 or W8 just so I can use WLM.

You made a wise choice. If you do not like what MS has move on. If you do not like what you installed, there are many others. Good luck to you.
