    Where we get our time from

    ok so how many of you know how we got to the point of saying we are in the year 2009? i'll let you answer first before i post where it came from...

    the clue is knowing the previous years, its 2009 AD (Anno Domini) which roughly translates from medieval latin as "in the year of our lord", if you go pre-AD then it becomes BC (Before Christ), this basically means that the year 0 was the year that jesus christ was born and everyone in the church was going mad during the millenium because they thought he would return after 2000 years, which he did not, so, we owe religion our year count

    No year zero in the Gregorian and Julian calendars. Yes, I see the smiley. I have met people who thought BC was 'Before Christ' and AD meant 'After Death'. They got a puzzled look on their faces when I said that means he lived for only part of a second.

    hehe, yep, you are correct jimjoe, it was 1 BC then it went straight to 1 AD
