I don't think it's helpful to think about "giving up" and smoke because it may induce some side effects like anxiety and frustration. Just take it easy, start smoking fewer cigarettes and leave long gaps between taking puffs. There are more harmful things around us (so no need to panic) like one single inhalation of car fumes is equivalent to smoking 1000 cigarettes. Human body is designed to correct itself with it's own mechanism, all we have to do is to eat right food, plenty of water and a bit of exercise.
These are for people who already smoking and do not take as an encouragement to start smoking,it's dreadful and dangerous.

You have been reading the Lambert & butler Packets :p

Im a smoker and have tried to quit 2x now :(
why do i smoke????
Well at the time being about 12 i was cool and hip to smoke not to mention the hard man image it gave you (omg how wrong) and all the Adverts on TV . it wasn't something easy to get away from, even football and formula 1 promoted, In fact its still hard to get away from even with the Advertising ban you see just as much advertising on TV and other places
then of course the herbal kind of tobacco can attack you (if you know what i mean)
Problem now tho is if you do want to stop its actually harder than you realise because you may be ok for a while but then a friend and others wil be smoking and the mental torture kicks in making you want one, will power or not you just want one and you will get one..... its like a craving for chocolate or cheesecake.... you body and mind is telling you you must have it, you must, just a tiny little bit wont hurt
then you be ok but it turns out to be a vicious cycle and it all happens again not to mention also after you have eaten, you must make rite after

I have cut down lots tho since discovering rolling tobacco and menthol filter tips ;)

sounds nasty but atualy quite nice :) hope that's not a bad thing

As ripbox said it is a craving and just another addition once you start and a hard one to break, I know it took me nearly 50 years to finally quit.

That was nearly 4 years ago now but it's no use telling people that's it's bad for you they have to want to stop for themselves, that way it is a lot easier to achieve. ;)

I smoked for years and quit a long time ago after many false attempts.
What I did in the end was realise that nicotine is addictive and that once the nicotine is gone, the rest is association and behaviour patterns.

Beyond the nicotene, people associate cigarettes with certain situations- a break at work, after a meal, talking on the phone- and the smell of cigarettes makes you want one!

What I did in the end was:
Tried to stay away from cigarettes. It helped that I live alone, but I in social situations, I tried to avoid smokers and the 'bum a ciggie' thing where you don't buy your own, you just smoke OP (other peoples!)

When I found I was wanting a cigarette, I did something else. For me, it was crochet. It's hard to smoke and crochet at the same time! Or I'd find somehting to clean. My house was never more spotless!

I stuck with it and now you couldn't pay me to go back. It takes a really long time, but you do get over the crave. The smell is bad to me now..

Good on ya Joan!

Have any of you looked at the electric cigarettes? It's debatable how much better they are, some say it's not any better than smoking, some say it's a healthy alternative to smoking as it's just liquid nicotine you put in to the cartridge and it gets vapourised and that's what you inhale. Has the same feeling as smoking a cigarette, just without the tobacco and carbon monoxide.

I have a friend who uses it and he said it's much better than smoking actual cigarettes.

I smoke, and I also started early....back when it was "cool".
Big Mistake.

I've tried quitting numerous times. Everyone seems to think it's easy. People who don't smoke just don't get it.

At this point, the price is making it easier to cut back a lot. I started making myself cut back, now making a pack last twice as long as before, which is also not easy.

I still plan on keeping it going and getting to the point of quitting....without help. None of this $60 box of crappy gum...that's just a waste of money. Same as the patch. Never worked.

I'm proud that i've been able to do what I have so far. Completely cutting off smoking instantly was too hard, so i'm trying other things.....just gotta keep trying.

I used to smoke about a year ago. Then I moved to Monterey, and where I live now nobody smokes. Not having any cigarettes around me really helped battle the temptations.

I think one of the best things to do is to observe all of the negatives about smoking:
it stinks, butts and ashtrays everywhere, smoker's cough, burn marks in your car, yellowing of teeth, expensive, etc...

Luckily I quit while I'm still young. Plus I'm an advocate of the other smoke. (Marijuana) ;)

Thats basically what my thyroid doctor told my brummyfan.Don't Don't quit smoking 2 fast cut back slowly and find other things you really like to do.Thats how he told me he quit without turning to food. That and sugarless gum.I don't know how good that fake sugar is for us but it has to be better than all that tar and other stuff in tobacco products. At least I hope so.I don know I can't stand the taste of sugar free gum and cigarettes together heh

I think I may start tomorrow tbh .I'm smoking almost a pack a day again :( When cigarettes prices started getting out of hand years ago I turned to one of those machines that you make your own.

With that new tax even machining your own costs as much as cheaper cartons of smokes like Pall Malls. Now I'm buying them from an Indian reservation for like $20 dollars a pack with shipping and handling. They are trying to make that illegal 2 zzz...I'm done paying $40 or more fore cigarettes so that might be a good thing but would be really unfair to the Native American Tribes IMO.
