Why No More CRT Monitors?

I love them...more than some lcd's like some full screen attachable ones that look crappy. Laptop screens are perfect though.

They don't make CRT's anymore apparently and the one I'm using now is about 15 years old and it's awesome, just a few pixel lines that are hardly noticeable.

The advantage CRT monitors have is you can adjust the screen sizes, width and length, you can't do this on an lcd, which bugs me especially when I need to resize a screen for whatever reason. CRT's rock...want a new one though.

My Computer

...you can't do this on an lcd...

Have you considered installing a decent graphics card in your computer?

...could be that I'm misunderstanding what you're saying or trying to do, but I can open a window (or multiple windows) in any size or shape that I want on any of my lcd monitors or my 61" DLP big screen with just about any resolution I chose.

Why though? The resolution is almost perfect on it. I don't notice any level of distortion or scan lines even from a foot away.

Buz what I mean is you can't adjust the screen dimensions like you can on a CRT. The LCD dimensions are fixed.

The reason why CRT's arent an industry standard anymore is because they emit radiation.
CRT's stand for Cathode Ray Tube, and all of those "box" monitors and televisions that exploit that technology are truly damaging to your eye-sight.
company's have been sued for not adopting LCD technology quick enough when CRT monitors were causing short- sightedness for employess. It doesnt matter what refresh rate it is, it will cause eye-strain looking into it because it emits radiation - my mum always told me not to look at the microwave oven when it was cooking for too long, because it has the same effect. Im 19 and I have 20 x 20 vision

Apart from the fact they are so bulky, i would go for a CRT monitor, i just think things, (especially games), look better on them.
The ONLY reason i use a flat screen is room. (the lack of it).

stoney nuts is cool.

Yeah you know...I know THOSE kind of CRT's are out there. Basically old-ass monitors that have been used, like the one I have. They probably have some dead pixels/unfixable pixel damage on them as well.

Why is it that in those two links and even some I've recently went to (I want this one so bad: PROLiNK - Challenge The Limit#) has NO listed price (I only care about new CRT's)? They all say to call some guy. I emailed Prolink and some idiot replied saying: "19' PRO52356(whatever model number) 1 year warranty"

...that was it, after a lengthy email asking what the price is and if it has some features I'm looking for, like full screen width and length adjusting.

Clicked "add to cart" hoping I could "go to my cart" and see the listed price but add to cart does nothing, thought I had to sign in so I tried to register and it says "not open for register at the moment"

It seems at the moment CRT TV's are 90% more popular than CRT monitors. WTF.

I guess I'm giving up on this thread:huh:
The two Craigs List postings I listed were both described as "never used".
The Samsung was still in the original box, and the price in the headline of the listing was $35.

The high resolution Viewsonic Graphics/gaming monitor was $75.

Both are high quality products.

Just what are you hoping to buy, and for what kind of price?

By the way, to my knowledge, CRT's don't have "pixels", so it would be somewhat difficult to damage them. When CRT's go bad, they just get dimmer and dimmer until you can hardly see the images and colors any longer.

Sorry for not noticing they weren't used. The thing is with the Viewsonic one, it was photographed clearly when it is out of the box so I don't see how this qualifies it as being new. I don't consider "never used" as new. I consider something within its original sealing as new.

The Panasonic one, like even the first one has a design I don't like. I'm looking for the kind that is similar to Prolink one, or a copy of a Sony multiscan trinitron 200ES, which is what I have now. Unfortunately I can't find any new version of this, anywhere. All are used. Sony also doesn't make them anymore...sucks.

Which is why I really want that prolink one now. Yeah I'm picky. Got an email from prolink but like I said was stupid.

I would say CRTs actually have better picture in the sense that you have a variety more options to choose from about the picture, it's geomtery, centering, the dimension sizes and so on. If I could do that with an LCD than I wouldn't mind. Also for the record, I know having a bulky monitor is undesirable, but to me it is somewhat desirable. I don't know why but I see a .5 inch thick screen as something almost fragile and worthless. I want it to take up some space, at least as much as the prolink one, which is in fact my dream CRT monitor at the moment, of course assuming the picture is as good or better than my sony multiscan trinitron 200es.

Depends on the CRT.

Also for some reason laptop lcds >>>>> external monitor lcds. the laptop ones are just so much clearer and brighter, well not by much but still, definitely notice it.
