don't know how this day goes on around the world...

my wife and i have always been low-key for events and holidays. not anti-holidays, just low key. we used to never make a big deal about stuff like halloween.

then the kids came...

two girls, now 6 & 3.

as they've gotten older, my wife and i have had to rethink our "low-keyness," (like that's even a word)

so, their grandmother gave them a pumpkin to carve (first time) and tomorrow we'll be making a great big mess! our 6 y.o. will be some kind of princess (i don't know) and the 3 y.o. has not got her costume yet (mommy is not on the ball!--i bought the costume for our 6 y.o., mommy buys the costume for the 3 y.o. :sarc:) tomorrow night, we'll traverse the mean streets in search of candy...

anyway, wherever your are and no matter how you spend your day (celebrating, drinking, or whatever), have a safe 31st!

Well I spent most of the day looking after my 17 month old grandson while his mother was in hospital having his brother, they came home this afternoon and later came round with the new baby and his brother dressed as a pumpkin, he looked cute. :D

my daughter is two and a half , today we have carved a pumpkin together (actually she just pulled out the seeds knives are sharp ;) ) and dressed her up as a witch , we didnt go out but we put the pumpkin on the doorstep and she enjoyed answering the door to trick and treaters in her fancy dress , she loved every minute of it and so did her mum and I ;)

Kids are ace cos you can do all these things again and not feel daft , even when your pushing 40 ;) roll on christmas :D

the big pumpkin was given to my girls from their grandmother.

the only thing i did was to cut the top. my 6 y.o. drew the face and cut the eyes and nose. she started to cut the mouth and was having a bit of trouble. her mom took the knife and "helped" her along. needless to say, bad move!:( she was very sad that she couldn't carve the whole face by herself.

the little pumpkin--my 3 y.o. got this in her pre-school class. we gave her a sharpie and let her go to town designing her face.

their mother has them now trick-or-treating--while dad gets a nice deserved rest!:)

We don't do Halloween in Australia as a general rule. Some do try, but it's never really taken off.

My sister found some pastic pumpkins, you carve them, but they don't rot. So you can use them for several years.

I bought lots of candy, pounds of it, as I now live in an apartment complex. Hundreds of apartments. 4 kids came by. Just 4 of them.

The second group had parents with them and told me I was the only one giving out candy, so I drove to a restaurant for supper and gave out the candy at work.

One of my nephews got first place and scariest costume award at a party at a friend's house. Gargoyle, with makeup. Took my sister 4 hours to do all of it. Couldn't find any wings she liked though.
