i had phoned up tech guys for a recovery disc, and they told me to phone an acer number for it. i told acer support the serial number of my laptop when prompted, and then gave me a number for the right support team for my laptop. when i had dialed the number, it was the tech guys again!

I got the best support from Gateway (in the US). But if you are looking for support, stay away from HP. The HP support guys drove me up the wall. If you call them, you have a hard time understanding them. If you send mails, they ask you several times to state the problem, but never come up with an answer. And if you are really unlucky, they loose all your history files.
Symantec (Norton) support, however, that also comes out of India, is pretty good.

Must agree about the Hewlett Packard statement, if ever you think you have problems go and spend a couple of hours at the HP consumer support forums and you will probably leave feeling your own problems are not that bad.

after much deliberation and reading reviews i finally bought my first lcd monitor it was a Dell 2209WA , when it arrived it was faulty , i bought it from overclockers but couldnt get through straight away so i rang Dell , after giving them the serial number off the box and giving them my work address they said a new one would be with me the next day and to box up the faulty one and give it to the courier who brought the new one

i was very surprised to have a new monitor by 12pm the next day!! i geniunely expected to be dissapointed.

on the topic of tech support i think they are a complete waste of space , they sit behind a pc type in your issue and ask you to do what their pc tells them to ask you to do , they have no knowlage of computers and have never been any help to anyone if they have to think for themselves

The absolute worse tech support I ever received was from a place in Texas. I was working for a small computer company on US east coast. The owner had sent a laptop for repair via UPS. The computer repair place lost it.

So they built us a new one. I called to determine when it would be shipped to us. They had someone answer their phones who barely spoke English. Really barely spoke English. Didn't know any computer terms.

He put me on hold after every sentence I spoke. Probably asking someone for a translation. I had no problem with that.

But the music I had to listen to was off-key, well very off-key, Country and Western music consisting of off-key guitar and singer who sang through his nostrils. I know the 'nostril singing' is something that happens often in C&W, but this guy managed to do that off-key. The guitar was off in a different key. And then the other musicians chimed in, and they were all in different keys. Musical keys other than the key the first guy wasn't playing in.

My boss walks by and sees some look on my face, asks me what is wrong and I hand him the phone. He said "What is that ? Cats and dogs fighting !?" A voice came on the line and said it was a new wonderful local singer who allowed his music to be used by them for free as waiting music.

My boss said something about "sounds like someone torturing a cat".

Anyway, after 2 hours of that, they realized I wasn't going to hang up and shipped the laptop and gave me the tracking number.

I called back to thank them upon its arrival, as my boss told me to, and I got the same guy. I said "Thank you, the laptop arrived." He didn't understand me. So I hung up before he put me on hold to listen to that yuk pretending to be music.

I have to say, I have listened to well written and sung C&W music. I enjoyed it. But the above on that tech support line was awful. And thats making fun of music that is merely awful.

Meh, had trouble with HP customer support not giving me an aswer that actually related to my question, that's why I never asked them when I had actual trouble with my computer, which were gone when I replaced XP with Vista.

For my laptop, I went of an Asus laptop and never had to call costumer support, the quality and the fact that it doesn't have problems at all still surprises me.
