I don't even know how to use a danged IPOD. Before I started this job I saw no need for them.. Am I actually going to go out and buy an Apple product?

I need to learn about it for my job, I upgraded to Windows Seven for my job because the only real way of learning about a product is to use it - IPOD is in the scope of support and I can't just tell the caller to call back and select another queue.. That'd get me fired.

What are the pros of having an IPOD?

There's really not a lot to an IPOD. My boy has the NANO, i've messed around with the TOUCH. It's just a glorified, overpriced media player. I got a cheap, $25 ipod ripoff, does the same things, just not as "pretty" looking.

My ( and my son's) biggest complaint is all of the Apple crap that gets installed with iTunes. Way too much crap to go through and install just to be able to put some media on a player.

I prefer iTouch's soon-to-be competitor (maybe because i own it :p)-
Samsung P3 Review
Excellent sound quality (can turn EQ up 3x louder than normal on haedphones and wired speakers;)) and its touchscreen is much better when you have upgraded the firmware from the Samsung download site.
Best of all for your purposes, you don't need to install any kind of iTunes/crap to use it. The computer recognises it as an external hard drive, by which you can just drag and drop videos and music onto it. Also includes Bluetooth, with lots of features built-in.

Exactly - I agree, lol. But unfortunatly people buy them - and Domii this thread isn't about any IPOD competitor, I mean IPOD itself, because I do tech support and I get calls about IPOD but no other MP3 player. So I need to learn about IPOD.

I had a Sansa Express and I loved the heck out of that kludgey little *******.

Then I lost it.

Now I have a 5th-gen Nano. It's awesome! 16 Gigs of awesome.

The nice thing is, ITunes reads and recognizes the changes I make to my MP3 collection through my Mp3Tag software. I have something like 2,000 songs and mixes of all kinds of music and I'm always finding album information and notes to add to the 'comments' sections of my mp3 files.

Well, I have read a few replies and in typical vista forum way, we advise to get a different media player, but when in your situation Timmah, I can understand what you require, however, there are so many variations of the iPod now that there just isn't enough money in your bank account to buy them all, each one is different, the classic and nano are probably the most similar, these 2 media devices are quite bulky and reliable, easy to use and most of all, large storage, iPod touch and iPhone are effectively glorified media players with the ability to go on the internet, you can't see an iPod touch as an iPod, but more of an entertainment platform, iPod function was like media center in windows xp mce, it's just a program, you can own an iPod touch and not even use the iPod function because there is quite literally so much to do on it.

IPod shuffles are basically iPod nanos without screens, nothing really special every song you put on cannot be accessed directly but rather every song on it is randomly shuffled (hence the name), but there is one more on the market now that really isnt an iPod but more of a notebook(but it has iPod function on it), I am of course talking about the iPad, it is a giant iPod touch, plain and simple, but more memory and processing power to work smoothly on a larger screen, you can learn about all these products at the apple website and even watch a few videos comparing each and every single apple product, i hope this has helped.

I love how people who obviously aren't keen on Apple talk about Apple products.

All this is true except you have to look at it from an 'It's amazing stuff!' or 'It's Apple!' point of view, kind of like how most teenage girls think about Justin Bieber.

Justin Bieber is this Canadian kid who's the new, male version of Miley Cyrus. The kids love 'im.

There's this Youtube vid going viral made by some mom filming her little kid crying over Justin Bieber. It's pretty messed up she was filming her kid like that but it made me kinda lol.

The Pros of Buying an iPod

  • Easy-to-Use Interface - The iPod's combination of simple the clickwheel and clear onscreen software makes it a snap to use out of the box.
  • Best Software Integration - The iPod/iTunes connection makes managing the music on both the iPod and your computer almost effortless. No steep leaning curve here.
  • Great Hardware - The hardware that is used to make the iPod is high quality, durable, and stylish.
  • Best Online Store - The iTunes Store is far and away the best online store for filling your MP3 player to the brim with great music, movies, TV shows, podcasts, games, and audiobooks. No other online store offers as many choices or deals as good.
  • Constant Innovation - Apple regularly adds new features to iTunes, the iTunes Store, and the iPod's software, giving you new content and capabilities all the time.
  • Selection - With the four different iPod models, there's an iPod for every need and budget.
  • Cool Factor - Even after all these years, the iPod is still the coolest MP3 player on the market. And everyone likes to be cool, yes?
The Cons of Buying an iPod

  • Higher Price - Apple products generally cost more than their competitors. Fans would say that the price is justified by the better hardware, software, and experience. That may not make much difference to your bank account, though.
  • Battery Life - This is less of a concern now than it was with the first few generations of iPods, but battery life has not always been as good as it should have been on the iPod.
  • Non-Replaceable Battery - Compounding this problem, the customer can't replace the iPod's battery, as it requires taking the iPod apart. This can lead to either dead iPods or needing to pay for a battery replacement.
