believe it or not, it's actually more in our interest than in yours, europe gets its fuel from the US, if refineries are deliberately holding their supplies of crude oil so people pay more at the pump then its a worldwide issue, not just USA and Canada. In some places in the UK, it costs about £1.30 a litre which comes to $2.05 a liter (we dont use gallons), it would be the equivalent to £4.81 a gallon which comes to about $7.56 a gallon (isn't the current price for gas about $3 a gallon in the us?), thats expensive in anybodys eyes, the problem we have is that companies have had a taste of massive profits and they know that after this hole we've dug ourselves into is opened up a bit, companies will have to lower their prices and they're trying to maximise profits right now. Unfortunately it's the drivers at the pump that have to pay for it.
