Pardon my ignorance. Been reading the General Rules .
What is termed " thread bumping " ?
I understand cross-posting, multiplt-posting, but not this one.

I am not sure myself but I think it is when someone does not reply to a thread for a long time and someone responds to boost their post count

I don't think that is the answer.

I have a feeling that it is the same as what we called " hijacking " someone's thread for a problem irrelevant to the subject matter of the original post.

A clarification from the mod would be nice.
I don't want to find out the answer by receiving a private warning from the mods.

Thread bumping is when the original poster (OP) posts a junk reply in their thread to only "bump" the thread back to the top of the page list in the forum it was posted in. This is because threads are listed in the order of newer (top) to older (bottom) date posted.

What is recommended instead is to give a unanswered thread at least 24 hours to be answered. If the OP doesn't get a reply by then, then the OP should reply back with additional information and details instead of just posting something silly like "BUMP". This way the OP is more likely to get a reply with a solution.

Thank you Brink I was a bit unsure on this as well Also I have spotted some "BUMP" Threads since I have been here shall I report them the next time one comes up or not?

Bumps are a grey subject... Sometimes posts get missed, and a bump 24+hrs later can get it seen, and start A flurry of replies and help.

I've seen a post with 0 replies 20hrs or older, and if I reply, a few other people then notice and chime in.. So while a bump wasn't needed, my reply brought it to the top and the attention of others.

I personally let a lot of the 24 hour type later bumps stay for that reason, but if somebody is bumping every 5 minutes then they will most likely see the ban hammer
