Hello I know that I signed up for free but do you have a higher membership that supports the forum through donations or time etc. what are your policys for becoming a higher member if the forum has such a program.

Thank you but is there a way to donate to the forum it must cost a lot to keep the forum running. Do you have a certain site or can it be done through the forum and also who are the people who put this site togehter and are they still active on the forum. I would like to donate if you could give me the details on where and how. Thanks

P.S. Is their a standard donation or can you give what you want to give.

Hello to all thank you very much for your congrats I will do my best to learn what I can from all of you and maybe someday I might catch up to you and your knowledge and with that I hope that I will be able to help all who ask's of me.

I am reading as much material from the forum as I can, some things are hard to remember and thats why I read them over and over until I can give a right answer when it is called upon me to do so. So please be patent with me a little longer I am now getting my feet wet and reading post's for help and trying to give answers to some small problems right now and I am little scared because I want all the people who calls apon the vistax64 family to know that they will receive the very best from all of us from the least of us to the very best. This is the best site I have been to and the people here are the kind of people I want to be, Knowledge is power and I am blessed to be here.

Hi Dave,

AFAIK, the Supporter Badge WAS the donations button or badge before it came to mean what it does today (which I understand to be awarded for non-financial contributions to the forum in terms of posting answers after some period of time to prove oneself which seems to vary quite a bit, being a beneficial and good member even if posting only questions but being "nice" and thankful and appreciative, or posting comments that support the forum's ethics or morals or desired behavior or sometimes simply being friendly and someone who posts things others enjoy reading and that support membership or increase viewing, or posting or reporting so that something they would rather not be happening is discovered and resolved and/or removed quickly).

But this was before my time, so if there used to be a button rather than a badge, I'm unaware of it. It changed meaning (after presumably changing from a button to a badge for whatever reason if you remember it being a button) because the site stopped accepting donations (I believe I recall John or someone saying that it actually cost more to administrate and deal with than it was bringing in, but I could be remembering that wrong). It is also possible that accepting donations put the site into a different tax category (or stopping them did) and that may have contributed to the cost differential. It's also possible that by accepting donations, they came under the jurisdiction of some government agency and decided they did not want that to occur or continue. The mechanism of accepting donations may also have required documentation and disclosures and possibly access that they were unwilling to continue. That's as much as I know or can surmise about the situation since, as I mentioned, it all happened way before my time and I wouldn't have been told any more than any other non-managment member about the rationale (and haven't really asked). Perhaps John will enlighten us, or perhaps it's something they would rather keep private and not openly discuss or reveal.

I know this didn't really answer your question, but it's all I know about the situation as well as what I've guessed about the situation. If the real answer is posted somewhere, I don't know where it is (it may even be in SF and not here). Perhaps an Advanced search for "Supporter" posts by John in both forums will provide a post with more information.

It answered my question perfectly, thank you Lorien, yes, it did use to be a button on the top bar near tutorials/tags black bar, my supporter badge was from donating you see ;-)

Oh Tom, you shouldn't be upset at all, to be honest, I've just gone over to seven forums and I've got 6-7 posts and got awarded the Power user badge and the supporter badge, in a way you are correct, I take this wonderful forum as serious as a place of work, but I treat it as a place where family are, and we are a family, and we all think you are ready to enter our little family.

oh, I forgot to mention, revenue on this site is generated by webhits, at this point in time, this website alone is worth $3m so trust me when i say that donations were hampering its value ;-)
