Computer and software

Hello

I am wanting to add things to my system and was wondering if everyone can help me on my system, I will up-load system info at the bottom of the page.

1. Hardware updates, what would you add
2. Software what would you update and or delete or install
3. I have already upgraded the system ram from 4 to 8 GBs which is the max for this computer.
4. What services would you trun on or off.
5. LG W40 widescreen monitor, resolution 1600 by 900
6. I also have a external hard drive 640 Gigs, internal 640 gig also.

I don't think you should start messing with services if you ask me, this "WinPatrol" BillP Studios Download Page is a great little program to help you manage alot of things,

start up programs, cookies, browser helpers, services, etc. the free version doesn't let you check their database, but you can enable and disable certain items to see if it helps.

It's a great little app with alot of info.

I am at a loss they did not come through on this either i will try one more time. It was my fault I had to go in and re-name them. Thanks Again

I agree with Derek. You are still new to computers and the ramifications of makeing changes. Proceed with caution. Before you start tweeking the system, get to know the fundamentals. Trust me, I have helped so many that wanted to make things better with tweeks, but only created problems.

This site will give you a lot of info on services. I use his safe settings.

I value your opinons and you have my promise I will not mess with the services at all untill I am up there with you guys and that looks like it will be a long time, but I do want to bump my hardware up to the max if possible but with good stuff, I do not want to change my mother borad at this time, when I get the system I want I will pass this one down to my youngest and she will have a real nice system. I want to get into the Intel core i7 and beyond with dual monitors etc with in about a year.

Thank you both for your input and I will follow your advice on this.

All I would really change is the graphics card, move to a PCI-E and a new PSU to handle the new GPU, you might consider something like a 500w-600w and an Nvidia 460 GTX (they are quite cheap with quite a kick).

Hello everyone thank you all so much for your help, I will up-grade the graphics card and what about a faster processor, I am learning so much from you, your keeping me on my toe's and I can't think of anything I would rather do then being right here with all of you.

TY for the kind words, Tom. Maybe one more piece of advice, which is true here as it is with everything in life. Take it slow, dont try too much at once, and ask as many questions as you need to.
Remember, ask a question and you may feel foolish for a minute; dont ask and you will be foolish for a lifetime.
You would be very surprised if you knew all the questions that I asked when I was in your position. I took it slow, made sure that I understood before moving on and now I am answering other peoples questions.
From what I see you are doing great. I even gave you rep for some help that you gave others. Were you able to find it in User CP?

Rich thanks again your words ring true, I am sure most of you understand trying to to many things at once, I have and hold different hero positions here at home and then try and do something I love doing and that is on the computer. I respect your opinons along with the others who have been helping. Awesome Guys and Gal's.

Hey Tom, I would keep the processor, it's a pretty good processor but re-clock it to factory defaults, that 100MHz means a lot, if you do want a faster processor, then I'd be aiming for an X4 Phenom 9950, same socket and should be compatible with your motherboard but at 2600MHz, would be considerably faster.

It would need to be done via Nvidia nTune software, the motherboard is OEM so short of flashing the BIOS, you wouldn't be able to do it in the BIOS, download this here > NVIDIA DRIVERS 6.06

you should have 2 icons on your desktop after installing, one called performance and the other called Nvidia system monitor, the performance is for overclocking and the other is for temps and hardware information. Hope this helps
