Later versions of Windows

Windows Vista/, and Windows 7 also display a Black Screen of Death when the operating system cannot boot. This is usually due to a missing file. This also happens when the user enables file compression on all files and the operating system compresses. Often the user must reinstall Windows, if the missing file is critical to the boot process. However, more often than not the boot screen will inform the user of the missing file. If the operating system is compressed, it will not be able to boot, even into safe mode.

ok close, but it will boot most of the time, sometimes it does first try sometimes it takes 10 tries, when it comes up it works smoothly for random periods of time. i called the computer direct, they said its a mother board problem, they said between 185 and 225 to fix. i only paid $199.99 on clearence from hh greg.

If it is an hardware problem and there is a very good chance that it is. You are better off buying a new machine than repairing one that was so inexpensive.
