TV still plays audio from it's own speakers even if I plug in my headphones

Hey guys.

This may sound weird, but, I'm trying to watch a DVD in private, so I use my computer headphones for the TV. I plug in my headphones into the headphone socket on my TV, but the sound comes into the headphones, but it still plays from the TV. How do I make it so that it only plays in the headphones and not out of the TV when it's plugged in?

Diden't know where to put this, so move it if you want.

Thank you for everything you've done for me in the past years. I'm sorry that games require much more than you're capable of, but you'll never be forgotten as my first personal computer <3
Check the owner's manual for the TV. Most TVs have a menu with an Audio section where you can turn speakers off. Just remember to turn them back on later.
