    Blue Screen on startup

OK so i woke up this morning and tried to start my computer up. I get to my password page, type it in and get a BSOD stating Page in fault in nonpaged area. I tried again but same thing. Next i tried to start in safe mode but still cant get anyway. So right now i'm unable to get into vista to try to fix it.

Anyone know how i can solve this?

    Hi eggyuk,

You might try doing a Startup repair to see if that can fix it for you.

I have tried startup repair but it says there are no problems. It seems to start fine it only blue screens once i enter my password. is there a way to bypass the password screen? I really dont want to have to a clean install of vista. I'm part way through my dissertation so i dont really have time to be messing around trying to fix my computer.

This will show you how to have automatic logon, but I do not know if this will solve your problem.

    Logon Automatically

If not, run a repair install to try and fix the problem.

I have sp1 installed so can i not do the repair install? Can you think of anything that would have suddenly made this happen. Its driving me up the wall cos i have xp installed on a seperate hard disk and i can longer get that to boot up anymore. Even when i tell it to boot up from the xp drive vista just boots up instead.

You may end up having to do a clean install again.

Hopefully this may be able to help. Scroll down until you see the error and see if one will give you a solution.

Try deleting the Windows swap file. Reboot and press F8 and then go into the command prompt. In the root of C, delete pagefile.sys file. And if you can delete, then reboot to the safe mode and disable the swap file.

    Re: Blue Screen on startup

OK. So in the end i did a clean install of Vista but i managed to back up my users folder so it kept all my settings and wasnt as bad as i feared. After two days i've almost got everything back on and working again so i can get back to doing my dissertation. Just wanted to say a quick thanks for the advice.
