Vista x64 BSOD stalls

Since installing Vista 64-sp1 ultimate I have experienced 4 BSOD, traceable
to a problem in a network driver. That is not the issue, what happens is
that the crash code displays a message saying it is initializing the disk
for a crash dump and stalls there... granted this machine does have 4gb of
memory, but I would expect the crash dump setup/write process to be
completed in under an hour. But it just sits there...

Is this a feature?

By the way, I have tried two flavors of crashdump file -- full and mini.
There is 140gb of freespace on the OS partition.
