Vista 32bit Most Things Not Responding Programs.

Hey Everyone and thank you very much for visiting my thread, hopefully you'll be able to solve my problem.:)

I Have a "Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium Laptop"
I've had it for quite a while now and I have noticed programs seem to have stop responding!

Example:
I downloaded a Video editing software trial (My friend uses it on his pc) Called "Sony Vegas". You may have heard of this. When I Open it loads and then jumps into "Sony Vegas 9 Is Not Responding" And it basically forces me to close the program!

This also happens on when i try to Save programs, documents, and even notepad has stopped responding! Or when i try to save a file on google sketch up it freezes and i loose all my data.

this is such an annoying problem so if anyone has a solution please note back to me ASAP

Thank you for your time in reading this thread:D

These are internal breakdowns in an app's mechanisms that cause it to no longer respond to what are called "window messages". If you reckon that it's happening to you so often, and in so many different apps, that there must be a common underlying reason, that points at code which is being injected into multiple apps - something like your anti-virus for example.

If you can readily reproduce some of these "not responding" events, you might want to test what happens when you boot to safe mode (hold F8 during startup) and attempt the same app operations from there. If the same sequence of steps does not lead to unresponsiveness in safe mode, that's significant and a standardised set of troubleshooting steps may help you find the culprit - using MSCONFIG or AutoRuns to selectively disable normal-mode-only componentry until you find the module responsible.

My Computer

I have tried before in safe mode but the exact same thing happened.
my Anti virus is AVG Free edition
this has been going on for a long time.

In addition to what Stew2 asked...

Since you can repro this problem easily, that makes it possible to troubleshoot in a relatively painless way. The next time that Sony Vegas (or whatever other app) gets into this standard "not responding" state, try doing this:

- Bring up Task Manager (ctrl+shift+esc)
- On the Applications tab, find the app in question. It's status will presumably be listed as "not responding".
- Rightclick the app, "Create dump file".

A few seconds later, you should see a message saying that a memory dump of the process was created in a specific location. If you can zip up that dump first and then upload it somewhere, I'll gladly take a look. It's stuck and waiting for something - the question is what?

My Computer

Ok so I just need to open the task manager and then create a dump file then find the location
thanks ill try that now

Yes i can install files, its just certain files don't respond when i try to open them.

My Computer

OK create a dump file and H2SO4 will read it for you. While your waiting on that click the first link in my sig and do what it says there. That will update your components and reduce compatability errors.

My Computer

okay i have created the dump file
now how do i let H2SO4 see It?
I Know where it is i just need to know how to let him see
im not able to open it.
By the way wheres the first link in you sig?

Upload the memory dump somewhere so I can download it at my end and look at it with the aid of a debugger. This site has a 10MB limit on the size of ZIP attachments, so if the size of the dump is less than that when zipped up you should be able to upload it here (go "advanced view" and click the "attachments" paperclip icon). Otherwise, if it's bigger than 10MB, there are loads of other sites on the internet which will allow you to upload a large file and then send a link to others - this one for example: RapidShare: Easy Filehosting

My Computer

The first link in my sig is Performance Updates

You need debugging software to read the dump file but if you zip it using Winzip or 7zip then upload it here im sure H2SO4 will look at it for you and post the results.

My Computer

Hopefully this isn't a double post
i just wanted to check it got through right i just didnt see it on the forum

Here it is

MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service
MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service

i used megaupload

Zip it up before uploading please. It should come down to less than 50MB - perhaps substantially less.

EDIT: forget it - I'm too curious. Downloading now...

Next time, pleeeze heed the 37 requests to zip up the dump first before uploading. It saves on electron wear 'n' tear ;)

Short version: update this DLL and the problem might go away:

07ff0000 080b9000 sfdsound.dll
Timestamp: Wed Oct 01 07:37:51 2008 (48E29C2F)

Apparently that's a Sony sound driver of some sort. If it's a standalone sound driver and not part of the app, then it might be as simple as downloading the latest version of the driver.

====================================

Debug version: thread 0 has the loader lock and that's preventing other threads from loading or unloading modules. In the meantime, thread 0 has effectively hung (while still holding the loader lock), apparently because sfdsound.dll has suffered a problem:

Until the loader lock is released other threads won't be able to do any work involving the loading or unloading of modules, and it looks like the loader lock will never be released. Classic "oops, we deadlocked" situation.

Try updating sfdsound.dll and/or the app itself. If none of that works, you might want to send the same dump to Sony. Their debug engineers will presumably want to see it.

My Computer

You need to know whats installed in your pc to be able to update components.

Click the vista start orb and in the search bar type msinfo32 and hit enter. This will open up a windows listing everything in your pc.

Use that info to fill out your system specs and we can then show you how to update your pc.

My Computer

Ok i did what you said and heres what came up

it said System Summary
Hardware resources
components
and software environment
and on the right is a load of info would you like me to tell you all of that?

My Computer

On that screen take note of what your CPU is.

Next open up Components on the left hand side. Click on one of the components listed for example Display and on the right hand side you'll see Adapter Discription take a note of what it says there. You now have your CPU and Graphics Card names and you continue doing that

Heres the most important components that you want to update so we need this info:

Motherboard
Graphics Card
Sound Card

Theres a host of other things like bluetooth, WLAN, CD-ROM etc that you can update as well and we can show you where to get them from if you list them, but the most important ones are the three iv listed above.

My Computer

List them here so i can see them then il post links for you where you can get the updates.

Once you've downloaded and installed the updates i direct you to. Unistall and then reinstall the Vegas Movies app.
