Hi, for a year now I've had a HP notebook using "windows vista home premium" and I believe is a 32 bit.

last night I got a blue screen error saying there was a problem with the "kernel memory dump" and this is the second time this happened, I have to mention Im not a computer guru so I would really appreciate if someone can please explain to me what that thing does and what that message means...

Im scared and I just want to take care of it before something goes bad.:(

Thanks a lot:)

im thinking the bluescreen was related to something else and for some reason it couldnt create a memory dump

right clcik computer and select properties
then advanced system settings on the right
under startup and recovery click properties

under system failiure is write an event to the system log checked?

the only other reason i can think of is if a live kernal debugger is being used , this will send info on the potential bluescreen somewhere else , but your pc wioll not bluescreen the live debugger stops it (i think) now if its set up like this and the live debugger fails that could be the cause of your bluescreen

this is HIGHLY unlikely im just thowing it out there for when somebody much cleverer than me sees this :p

No, That's the second one, but the first one was something different...I don't remember what it said...

Something about power supply...I really don't remember..

But yeah, the box is checked, Can you please tell me what caused that?
Is it bad?
Is it a sing that my hdd is dying?

bluescreens can be caused by many things , some serious some not , it may be somehing silly , it may be an isolated incident

go to computer the your c drive and open the windows folder , in there you need to find a folder called "minidump"

details of your crash's will be in that folder attach them (there should be 2) to your next reply in this thread (using the attach icon at the top of the text box)

then i or someone else cleverer can have a look it at it for you see if anything can be diagnosed from them
