Complete PC Backup and blue screen of death!

At home I backup my computer (which I do all my after-hours work on) three times a week. I have Vista Ultimate x64 with 4meg memory. I use Complete PC Backup and never thought that the restore end of this would not work. I went through all the steps and when it came time to reboot all I got was the computer going to safe mode and no matter which safe mode option I took the result was a fast blue screen of death (maybe a second of it as far a time) and then back into safe mode. The reason I had to use the restore end of this is my hard drive crashed and I put in a similar drive. Does anyone know if the restore end of the Complete PC Backup for Vista Ultimate x64 work only if the system is exactly the same?

I use Genie, but here's a quote:
----------------------
Restore the genie disaster recovery if you are restoring to the same machine, only if the hard drive was replaced, or the hardware configuration is identical to computer the disaster recovery backup was take from, otherwise use the regular backup to restore your backup
----------------------

So I can use Genie Disaster Recovery if the hard drive is replaced. Because backup tools tend to copy each other, I assume you can do the same with Complete PC Backup.

BTW:
Explore the features: Windows Backup and Restore Center

Quote:
You can restore your PC back to its original state or onto another PC. Windows Complete PC Backup and Restore can be initiated from within Windows Vista or from the Windows Vista installation CD, if the PC is not able to start up normally from the hard disk.
