help me with system hang

hii,
wenever i am opening windows explorer or control panel. it gets hang. the following message is displayed.

Open up Task Manager (right click on the Task Bar)
Select the Processes tab
Click on "Show processes from all users" in the lower left
Double click on the Image Name column to sort alphabetical

Open up explorer and let it hang
Right click on the explorer.exe process that's hanging (if there's more than one you'll have to experiment to figure it out (use the PID column in View...Select columns).
Select "Create dump file"

The program will tell you where the dump file is located.
Upload it to a free file hosting service (I like Box.net | Simple Online Collaboration: Online File Storage, FTP Replacement, Team Workspaces ~ Free Version)
Share it
Then post a link to it here.
We'll analyze the hang in a debugger to see if it gives us any further info.

i tried da steps u said.. this time it was APPCRASH instead of the earlier APP HANG B1... namely

Sorry for the delay - lot's of excuses, but I'm back now.

The faulting module is vsfilter.dll - probably VSFilter by Gabest (maybe this is familiar: VobSub & TextSub filter for DirectShow/VirtualDub/Avisynth ) Uninstall that app, then test to see if it's fixed the issues.

The dump is way, way too big for us to use!!! So, let's give this a shot....

Follow the steps here to generate an analysis of the dump file ( Diagnosing Bsod's (originally posted 02Oct08) - Vox ). Don't worry that it's an application rather than a kernel dump - it'll still work.

Then copy and paste the results to your next post. It's gonna be huge, so just do the best that you can - we'll work from there. Ask questions if you've got any - this'll be a learning experience for both of us.

it seems that you are using k-lite codec pack. The problem is addressed here. if so uninstall the k-lite codec pack and check the problem persists.

disable all the addons in internet explorer related to k-lite codec pack.


And scan your pc for any malwares and viruses. :)

To find the addons:
Open Internet Explorer
Click on Tools
Click on Manage addons
Check there for anything associated with the klite codec pack and disable it.

resetting iexplore may work for u.

Hi, there r no add-ons. but the frequency of AppHang B1 has increased. Its really irritating. please help me with an easy to follow solution asap. Thanks!!

Download shellmenuview, run it and disable all the context menu extensions related to media(like audio and video players)..

Restart your computer and check.... :)
