Vista System restore failed not able to boot up - blue screen

    Hi All,

I'm totally messed with a problem.
I have my laptop(Vista Home premium 32 bit) fine and running from past 1 and half year.
Suddenly from 5 days I am facing 'Display driver nvlddmkm failed and restored successfully'. Don't know when and why this happens.

So I thought of restoring my system to 5 days back.

I selected System restore back up point to 23rd of September,09.
During this process something got messed up and when restarted it is showing 'blue screen' . Nothing else is visible.

I'm able to login through safe mode.but don't know what to do with this.

I also tried to do system repair. But no use.Ended up with same.
Tried to do system restore again. No use.

Can any one please suggest me what might be the cause and what should I do now.

Even if I want to reinstall Vista, manufacturer has not provided any backup cd with my laptop.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards,
    Joshna

You could contact Sony and request the operating system media. This might cost $$.

    Hi
When you login through safe mode try system restore and choose another restore point earlier than 23rd of sept. I think you might have a virus.

Your system is in such a mixed up state you fastest and easiest repair is going to be a clean re-install

    good luck

    Hi All,
I tried with sytem restore and startup repair, but no use.
What might be the cause? How can I come over this problem.
I have seen so many threads in forums with the same problem, but unable to find any solution any where.

If you can log into safemode we have somewhere to start from

do this.............. How to perform a clean boot procedure to determine whether background programs are interfering with a game or a program that you currently use ......

    If you use Windows Vista

To perform a clean boot on a computer that is running Windows Vista, follow these steps.
    1. Click StartCollapse this imageExpand this image

, type msconfig in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.

      Collapse this imageExpand this image

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Continue.
    2. On the General tab, click Selective Startup.
    3. Under Selective Startup, click to clear the Load Startup Items check box.
    4. Click the Services tab, click to select the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable All.
    5. Click OK.
    6. When you are prompted, click Restart.
    7. After the computer starts, start the game or program and check whether the problem is resolved.
if it boots into windows after a clean boot you have a corrupt driver , come back and we can tell you how to find out which one it is

    Hi ken,

How to reinstall now. I do not have any backup cd with me. And will all vista updates (till now) get applied directly?

did your computer come with vista pre-installed? if so there should be a sticker on the bottom with a vista key. it would just be a matter of downloading vista, burning it to disk and re-insstalling. A clean install will mean you have to re-install your apps, and if there is any data on the disk you cant live without not the way to go.

At least if you have the vista dvd you can boot from it.

What have you tried to repair you current OS?

    ken

EDIT: have you done anything besides what is in your first post???

    Hi,
I do not understand clearly what you are trying to explain. Am I clear in explaining you the problem facing:
I'm not able to boot up normally. Its not like I'm facing this problem when running a game or program. Please read my thread posted first. If any other information is required I will post.
