Failure to boot BSOD

Hey,

Ok so basically, everytime I start up the pc it ends the BIOS and goes onto the screen with the green bar. However, before it can start with the green bar it BSOD's. Now last week the computer wasn't going into BIOS and I fixed that by switching the ram from one to slot to another (multiple times as it wasn't a one off thing).

So, would I be correct in thinking the ram is the issue here? Windows has been formatted so I'm ruling that out as the issue.

cheers,
roboa

Have you got some different RAM you could test to see?

Well have you been able to boot in to Windows at any time since re-installing? And did you install any drivers?

And have you tried getting in to safe mode?

It went into windows fine last night after I re-installed and restarted several times without issue after installing drivers and software. This morning though, nothing.

Safe mode gets to crcdisk.sys and then reboots.

You could try running a repair (boot from DVD and choose Repair Windows at the setup screen). I remember have a problem like this a couple of years ago and when I ran the repair, it found an update that hadn't installed correctly and that fixed it.

It might be your RAM, but best to try other things before you go out and spend money, only to found out that isn't the problem.

Hello roboa,
Can you upload your minidump files and we will take a look at them to see if they can tell us what is going on.
You will find them in C: > Windows > Minidump. Zip them up and upload them with your next post.
For now, can you remove all but one stick of ram and try to get a BSOD, keep doing this with all the ram, this will tell you if it's good or bad.
If anything is overclocked, set it all back to default. and can you fill in your system specs, thanks.
Give it a go and post your results, good luck.

I'm only running 1 stick of 2gb ram and nothing is overclocked.

Specs:
Gigabyte GA-73PVM-S2H mobo
250gb HD
9500GT
2gb ram

I'll get the minidump files asap but I cant get into windows so I will have to put the HD in a USB enclosure.

Ok, don't know what's going on but it's just randomly worked gone through to logon and then windows with no BSOD.

Now I'm inside windows, is there anything I can run to check the system?

My Computer

While the HDD is out and being viewed on another PC, carry out a chkdsk on it.
Go to properties of the drive and choose tools > Error checking > make sure both boxes are checked and start.

The link below will let you check that your error, dump config, is correct.

How to read the small memory dump files that Windows creates for debugging

I have to say, the fact that it started last time after re-seating the ram does point to the ram being suspect, and a clean install would tend to lead you away from a file/driver issue, but without another stick of ram to try, i would want more evidence before i went out and bought, another stick of ram.

If you cant get it to make a dump file, turn off the system restart option in the startup and recovery options.
This means that you will have to restart the PC, but in the mean time you can read, and write down what is on the blue screen.

Thats about all i can offer at the moment, so, it's buy another stick of ram in the hope it's that, or, try and get some information from a blue screen/dump file.
