Vista Blue Screen After new mobo installation

Hello everyone!
Here's what I got. I just bought a new motherboard: XFX nForce 750i SLI Socket 775 Front side bus 1333MHz. Since my old one XFX nForce 680i LT SLI motherboard's PCI-e x16 slot shorted or something (just nothing comes up when i boot). Anyway I installed this new motherboard with all my pre-existing other components and it boots fine and it can run but i keep getting a blue screen kind of often. I've heard this board can blue screen if the voltages to ram exceed 2.0 V but mine are set at 1.9 V so that should be fine. I completely formatted my drive and did a clean install of Windows Vista 32bit on a single partition. The error i'm getting is: A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer. ***STOP 0x00000024 (0x001904AB, 0x93c23B90, 0x93c2388C, 0x8994D9c4) ***Ntfs.sys - Address 8994D9C4 base at 898A7000, Datestamp 4549aceb
I have seen this one a few times now. I'm confused as to what i should try next. I could get some hard disk drive scanners to look for problems and run a chkdsk or format and reinstall and reset my CMOS, again, but I feel like something else is wrong. However, I do believe it has something to do with the HDD since its been dealing with information slower and tends to crash when i'm dealing with partitions, restarting after installing updates or programs or otherwise failing to do so or freezing (not responding) during install. I've tried safe mode but it does it there too. My HDD makes the same noise as it always did and the HDD light blinks normally. I really hope i can fix this problem without having to go out and buy a new HDD but this problem just started after I installed my new mobo so I would like to seek some outside advice for my problem. Any advice, tests I should run or things I may have overlooked would be a great help. If you need a detailed spec of my computer I have them in my profile or just ask and i'll post them. Thanks alot, I really appreciate any help i could get with this problem.

Thanks for the speedy response Dwarf! Yes i have done my digging as well and found out that error code and i have run a chkdsk which came up clean. The Vista installed on my computer is "clean" as i just formatted and re-installed so i have no anti-virus installed yet and i disabled any scheduled tasks, such as auto defrag and system restore. I also downloaded a seagate tool but it can't find any hard drives which is quite annoying (i'm positive my drives a seagate the tag starts with ST and i looked into my case and saw their logo and name just to be sure) so i can't scan my drive that way. So i ran a windows memory diagnostics to try and find a possible memory issue. While it was scanning it came up as a problem was found but upon completion and restart i got no results to appear to help me out. So i ran it again and this time it told me that there is and to contact the computer manufacturer, which i laughed at because thats technically me and that advice doesn't help at all, haha. So now by simply knowing their are issues should i try and re-seat the ram and try to look for problems and are their any helpfull programs that could help me test which stick is bad?

Hi Garrett,

Download http://www.memtest.org/download/4.00/memtest86+-4.00.iso.zip

Extract the file and burn the image to a CD.

Restart your machine and boot from this CD. Try this with all sticks of RAM installed and then try each stick in turn in every slot. Be aware that this will take some considerable time (run 3 passes per test), but it should pick up something if your RAM is faulty.

Faulty RAM can cause numerous problems, from not being able to boot to data corruption.

ntfs.sys is the file system on the hard drive. The possibilities are (in general):
- bad cables (most common when switching parts)
- bad file system
- bad controller
- bad hard drive

You've already checked the file system w/CHKDSK

Check the cables - physically checking to see if they're securely connected and then replace them with new one's to see if the old one's are broken

Check the hard drive with this free diagnostic: HD Diagnostic

Update controller drivers (on the motherboard). Some of the older Seagate hard drive tests contain a controller test - but I haven't seen that in a long time.

Yea i opened up my computer and all the cables are good and i had another SATA cable so i replaced the old one, and looked at the drive but it seams fine. So did all the ram and slots, but you can usually never tell until it doesn't work at all from looking at it, but its always worth a try XD. I re-seated everything too. As for my psu i haven't had any problems from it before and i keep my computer plugged into a surge protector at all times so i don't think its that or it would not allow me to turn my computer on. I had another problem before, with my computer, and my psu would not let me turn my computer on because it detected a short, i would recommend X3 there great. The only thing i wonder about it is that since its 1000 Watts, could that cause any problems due to over power? Anyway thank. I'll try the memory test as well as the HD Diagnostic and see if it picks up anything funny, then let you know.

Alright sorry for not responding i got really busy with college and what not. Anyway so all my ram is good and the slots are fine. My computer is now up to date and everything (service pack 2 and preceding updates). The Seatools (seagates hard drive tester) can't find my only seagate drive. It can find my external usb connected drive but not the internal seagate one :/. My computer does not blue screen or have any troubles except when it comes to starting up/shutting down or disk extensive tasks. By that i mean theres no problems but it takes quite a bit of time (around 8-10min) to shut down on some occasions and after i pick my log on name it will stay at a black screen for about 5mins or so then load the start bar, background, and icons. So i think my disk is failing. Ill try connecting it to the other SATA ports on my mobo to see if its a faulty connection but i doubt it. What do you think?

I would say that the Seagate test failiing to see the Seagate drive is a problem.
It could be the hard drive, but it could also be the controller on the motherboard.

Try another test (such as the Hitachi DFT) - but I don't expect much (I use the Seagate test when I can't get the Hitachi test to work).

hum wow i forgot to reply back to this thread. Very sorry guys. I appreciate all the help. I believe my problem ended up being a faulty install of windows after the new new hardware install. As my ram and hdd are working fine and no bsod. Not quite sure but that problem is gone but i got a new one with the same board. Its on this thread if you would like to help :) Thanks!
