Solved Blue Screen on Dell 518 Inspiron with Vistax64

Hi everyone, I'm new here, don't know much about computers, and I need help today. My 1 year old Dell Inspiron 518 came with Vista Home PremiumX64, and the warranty expired a week ago. They won't talk to me without charge.

I have a blue screen. One error was a Stop 0x00000050, Fatal System Error c0000221 - Unknown Hard Error\SystemRoot\System32\ntdll.dll. Another blue screen error read, 0xc004D301 Security Processor reported the trusted data store was tampered.

I was able to go under the Boot Menu and run a diagnostic. It said Error Code 2000-0123 (Memory Integrity Test Failed).

I haven't been able to get Windows to load at all, nothing I try is working, and I don't want to spend money for servicemen to come in. Anything I can do that's not too involved?

Thanks very much for any advice or info! :)

Hi,

It is very unfortunate that your warranty expired a week ago. Have you tried Safe Mode? If you can access it, can you please navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump, zip up the contents of that folder and upload it to your next post. Then we can analyse it properly for you.

All your Stop codes are different and point to different problems, but can you re-run Memory Test, and give us the full results including Address. Unfortunately, it sounds like one of your sticks of RAM has broken.

Have you installed any modifications to Windows. If you can access Safe Mode, I would strongly advise running your anti-virus scanner and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: Malwarebytes.org

Sorry,

Richard

Hello nitroped,
This is the bug check for your BSOD.
STOP 0x00000050: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
Usual causes: Defective hardware (particularly memory - but not just RAM), Faulty system service, Antivirus, Device driver, NTFS corruption, BIOS

Do you have any USB flash drives plugged in, if so, remove them and try to boot.

Remove all but one stick of ram and try to boot, swap ram and try to boot again.

As niemiro has said, try and get to the Minidump files and upload them.

Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks to all for your replies to my post! I was advised by a couple of friends that it may be the Ram. My system has 6GB DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB & 2X1GB. I removed the first Ram stick which was a 2GB, and the system recovered and worked just fine. I've since replaced it, and have had no problems yet.

Thanks again for your input! :)
