blue screen of death problem recurring

hi vista forums,

when i start up my com puter , everytime when i get to the stage where there's a black screen and a little bar where it loads, suddenly i get a blue screen that flashes for less than a second, not even enough for me to see what it says, after that, my computer restarts, and then i can either start windows normally or launch startup repair, i did the startup repair, i did the system resotre, then i finally logged onto the computer, but then the next day, when i opened my computer, the blue screen happened again...

I really need help, this is extreemly annoying.

Right click on "My Computer", click on Properties, click on Advanced tab, click on Startup and Recovery Settings.

Make sure that "Automatically restart" is unchecked, and that "Small memory dump" is selected under "Write debugging information", and that "Overwrite any existing file" is unchecked.

Next time you get BSOD, upload the Minidump file you should find in the C:\Windows\Minidump folder.

uhhh.. just wondering.. when i get the BSOD, usually i cant get onto my computer because of that.. and i have to do system resotre via the startup repair thing... just wondering that if i done that, would the minidump thing be restored back?

i'm totally unsure about that, due to my lack of computing knowledge, please tell me if it's true or not.

I think if you were to restore your computer to an earlier point you would lose the minidump file.

That is probably why the folder was empty the first time you checked it.

When you get the BSOD can you boot up into Safe Mode?

If you can, do so, and save the minidump file into one of your Temp folders before you do the Restore. Then you can upload it from there.

The next time you get a BSOD, restart and boot up in Safe mode with Networking before you do the restore; then the minidump should be there and you can save it to another directory and upload it.

Hello poolwizard,
Here are the results of your bugcheck.

STOP 0x0000007E: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Usual causes: Insufficient disk space, Device driver, Video card, BIOS, Breakpoint with no debugger attached, Hardware incompatibility, Faulty system service, Memory, 3rd party remote control.

Probably caused by : acpi.sys

The first thing is to replace the faulting driver which is acpi.sys
Use the tutorial below to extract the file and replace it.

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/261616-extract-files-vista-installation-dvd.html

Have you added any new software/hardware ?.
How much disk space do you have ?.
What third party software do you have ?.

Replace the driver and we can go from there.
Hope this helps, good luck and post your results.
