Edit: D'oh! Feel free to delete/ignore this thread, I fixed it with a System Restore from safe mode.

Hey folks.

I was attempting to install a custom theme today, first time I have done so. I followed these instructions:

"You will need a patched uxtheme.dll file or VistaGlazz to apply the theme.
VistaGlazz can be found here: VistaGlazz at CodeGazer

To replace system files in Windows Vista you need to be the owner of a file.

Take ownership of files in Windows Vista:
_________________________________________

Right-click the file you want to take ownership of & go to properties.
Go to the 'Security' tab.
Click on 'Advanced'.
Go to the 'Owner' tab & click edit.
Click on your name & apply.

Exit the properties to apply changes
Go once again into the properties of the file.
Go once again to the 'Security' tab.
Click on your name and then edit, give yourself full permission on the file.
Apply, close and you're done.

Visual Style:
_____________

Copy the visual style into your \Windows\Resources\Themes folder
Doubleclick the msstyle file and apply the theme.

Shell32.dll for the topshellstyle:
__________________________

Take ownership of the original shell32.dll file in your Windows\System32 folder
Rename it to shell32.dll.original

Copy and paste the new shell32.dll into your Windows\System32 folder

A RESTART MIGHT BE NECESSARY!"

Restarted my computer, logged in and was hit with messages informing me that processes such explorer.exe, AtBroker.exe had failed to initialize. Clearly I messed something up.

I have a black screen with a mouse. Ctr-Alt-Del gives me the menu, but task manager fails to initialize, as does the Task Scheduler Engine. I keep getting messages that TSE has stopped working. I can log in and out, but nothing more.

Tell me true, did I permanently bork my laptop? I appreciate any help given.

If this is considered a BSOD, I apologize for not having minidump files. I don't know how to access them with my laptop like this.
