Problems after installing new power supply

Hello,

Recently, a power surge took out my computer (and yes, I had it plugged into a surge protector, so much for them). With the use of another computer, I was able to figure out that the power surge fried the power supply. I purchased a new one on ebay. I made sure that everything matched, input, output, voltage, etc. Except the previous PS was 300W I bought a 400W. I'm able to turn the computer on but it hangs after the welcome screen. I'm able to access safe mode and after a while the screen saver comes on and my mouse moves but nothing else. I tried to use the restore/reinstall disk but with no luck. Could the 300W vs 400W be a problem?

Thanks for the help.

Heyy, Welcome to Vista Forums!:party::party:

It sounds like you have corrupted windows files...

If you havnt tried this already, try, it might take an hour, maybe more...

Go into BIOS and change first boot device to CD/DVD, put your windows disc in, and reboot.
Let it boot from cd, you might have to press enter when asked.
Select the repair option and select the hard drive that your OS is on (this may be the other way round, i cant remember)
Let it do its thing (search for files and replace them)
When it asks you to remove the cd, remove the cd and reboot..

You should now be working!

If you have any problems, just shout!
Hope this helps,
Daniel =)
