    Crash on sleep

Hi all, back in here after a long time of no problems, now my computer is crashing when it goes into sleep mode - at least I think that's what's going on... I go away for awhile, the computer should go into sleep, I come back the computer screen is black and the machine is OFF. Push the on button on the box, the screen comes up that it wasn't shut down properly. This is only after the last windows auto update, anything related to that? I tried a rollback to before the update and then reinstalling the updates, but nothing changed.

    Vista x64U

    Thanks, --ch

    try this:

Then use this approrach, if the first does not work.

Use system restore from a few days before the update. Then set updates not to update automatically. When you receive the update, again, right click and hide it. The problem should be solved.

    Re: Crash on sleep

Thanks. Restore didn't help. Am running sfc now. For the moment, I have the computer set to never sleep, but this is not a good solution.

OK, sfc /verifyonly did not find any integrity violations...

    any other suggestions?

    thx,

Try this and see if it helps. If it does we can find the cause

    Re: Crash on sleep

Sorry, was off for a couple of days...

Did all of the above, even with all non-Microsoft services and all startup items disabled on startup, no joy, still crashes immediately on sleep. Beginning to think this is a hardware problem... --ch

    Re: Crash on sleep

Did that, don't really know what I'm looking for... The only problems I can find are under Application, 0 critical events, quite a few "Error" events but none of them seem to be really related... the only one that sounds kinda nasty is the following:

    source WMI
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

    ...whatever that means... --ch
