PC PMS

So my laptop is an indecisive ass. It's been having an issue with "freezing" on me often.
Most commonly, the PC will operate normally until I leave it long enough for sleep mode to activate. After that, the lights will be on, but the only way to use the PC again is to hard boot it.
On other more annoying day, the damn thing just freezes in the middle of whatever I'm doing.
On rare occasions, it recovers from sleep mode.

I have a Compaq Presario C700 running a 32-bit Vista Home Edition.

Not sure what the issue is... I think it's hardware, but I figured I ask here before sending it in for repair... I'm short on cash at the moment and if I'm not a programmer or anything like that, but I'm computer literate enough to be able to figure out how to fix software issues on my own.

Any other Vista users seen this issue, or is it my laptop?

When the Laptop entered sleep mode were there any Programs running?

If a lot of Programs Run when doing a sleep mode it will take longer to resume

Hope This Helps,
Josh

- Thanks Josh.

I think it's happened with nothing open a few times. Usually it's just firefox open. At the most it would be windows explorer, firefox, and word. I believe the more I have open, the more frequently the problem occurs.
It's hit or miss really... some days the computer throws me curve balls and operates fine with 15+ tabs open in firefox and me running word as well.

I can almost "sense" warning signs that it's happening but at that point it's too late to save my work or anything. (thank God for auto-recover tech) When receiving these warning signs, I put my ear down by the keys and I did notice a small audible change like the fan goes to half power of something, I can't really discern what it is for certain.
When the problem occurs, it's not slower, it simply doesn't resume at all without a hard boot. It could be a condition that takes hours to correct itself but I never had that much patience to wait.

Also I tried clearing some files off the harddrive and that didn't do a thing either...

Thanks again.

Next time it happens go to Event Viewer and look for critical errors from the same time.
