Could not copy file to disc. Kept getting a Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library error for Windows/Explorer.EXE w/ a Runtime Terminate. Explorer.exe would stop responding when a retry or cancel was done and terminate all windows using Explorer.exe. Desktop would also refresh. Found that I have Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL Update kb973923 – x86 8.0.50727.4053 dated 7/30/2009 and Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable dated 8/7/2007.

I made sure I did not have any registry issues or viruses. I also made sure I had the latest service pack and there were no windows updates. I even removed my antivirus software and tested. No issue there either. Reinstalled antivirus. I found a work around before the fix. I have a NTI CD & DVD-Maker application installed. I was able to use that to create my backup until I found a fix.

I tracked down the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 via the web and found a “Refactor! For Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/visualc/bb737896.aspx). I downloaded and installed. I can now copy a file to disc without any debug errors.
