Hello,
Over the last few weeks, my Windows Vista laptop has occaisonally been very slow when doing things such as browsing with IE, taking a good 1-2 minutes to bring up my computer or other explorer windows, and taking longer than usual to shut down or restart. I checked for viruses and didn't come up with any.
I am running:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Service Pack 2
220GB HDD
3.00 GB of RAM
I did some research online, and several websites recommended to scan the registry for errors that might be causing the slow down. I used Reg Genie to scan and fix about 700 errors and it worked better after that. But now yesterday it acted up again so I used RegGenie again and it found over 800 errors, and I had also uninstalled a few programs earlier in the day.
After I fixed those errors, the browsing of the Internet was back to normal speed. Then I went to look in My Documents for some reason and a message box popped up and said:
explorer.exe: class not registered.
I've had this PC for over 2 years and have never seen this message before. And the only programs that load ok are IE, Firefox, MS Word and AIM. I can't access My Computer, Control Panel, My Documents, etc. I tried to go to system restore, it says: "A device attached to the system is not functioning" Same message when I try to run regedit. I also cannot get into RegGenie to undo the changes.
I get the feeling I might have to re-install the OS. But if anyone knows of something to try that might reverse this problem, I'd be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
