Erratic mouse issues tried everything - HELP!!!

I have been experiencing erratic mouse issues for the last couple months and feel like I've tried everything yet nothing fixes it. I've spent hours reading forums & blogs, googling etc and still the problem persists.
The mouse (movement AND scrolling) hesitates then jumps drastically across the screen. 70% of the time it's just annoying & bothersome but mostly functional, 20% it's non-functional and the other 10% it works fine. After switching mice numerous times, at this point I'm sure it's the computer, not a mouse issue.
I have an HP Pavilion desktop running Vista Home Premium 32-bit. My current mouse is a Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 6000.

Here's what I've tried already, none of it has worked:
    1. Rebooted (numerous times, duh).
    2. Tried a different mouse (on my 4th mouse).
    3. Removed former mouse software.
    4. Removed & reinstalled and checked online for new drivers (Intellipoint 7.0 software).
    5. Tried different mouse settings including checking and unchecking "Hide Pointer While Typing" and "Display Pointer Trails".
    6. Bought a high quality mouse pad.
    7. Changed batteries.
    8. Cleaned lens/used canned air on lens.
    9. Tried different USB ports for the receiver.
    10. Tried Microsoft "Fit It" troubleshooter (Microsoft article 321122).
    11. Ran spyware/malware via my Microsoft security software, no issues found.
    12. Since this is a desktop, not laptop, it's not a touchpad issue.
    13. I've tried many other google tips found as well but can't remember all of it.
If anyone knows what else to try that may work I would be most grateful.
    Thanks in advance!

As richc has said the touchpad can cause problems, try turning it off.
Also try a wired mouse. I have had problems in the past with wireless mice and found that other devices can interfere with them. Do you have a cordless phone near by?

Desktops don't have touchpads (as stated in the original post twice) but thanks.
Nope, no cordless phone or other cordless/wireless devices nearby. This seems like it has to be a software issue since I've traded out mice 4 times now and the problem occurs with all of them. Very confounding issue!!!

Sounds like it might be a trojan. I know you said you ran the anti virus and malware. Was it malwarebytes, if not download and run that, also run hitmanpro?
Make sure you update them after the download.

I'll give that a try when I get home and see what it does. Thanks richc46.

OK, so I ran Malwarebyte, Hitman Pro, Registry Booster (free version), and Advanced System Care 3 (free version) and the problem still persists.

Registry Booster did say that it found 497 registries needing to be fixed but that can only be done with the pay version, of course. With so many programs like this it's always hard to tell without taking the time to research them if they're automatically going to say that you have registry issues just to get you to buy the program so at this point I haven't done so.

    Any additional recommendations?...

Try a port that is in back of the computer.
Did you try the ports in back of the computer?

Try in safe mode, same problem?

Yep, I've tried all the different USB ports for the receiver and that didn't make any difference.

I just now tried booting to Safe Mode and it still has the same problem in Safe Mode, very jittery, slow, erractic response.

I often get a random CorelIOMonitor.exe error pop up stating "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive" etc. I don't know what's causing that and can't get it to stop so I just have to click Canel a couple times and it goes away.

Now after installing UniBlue Registry Booster the other day I'm getting a pop up error very similar only it's a "registrybooster.exe - Do Disk" (etc) error of the same sort.

Could this/these be related to the erratic mouse?

Also, the registry booster scan is saying I have 276 System Related Errors and 203 User Related Errors. 1) Is this valid, 2) do I need to purchase the full/pay version to correct these?
