I did back up my drive on a external drive before it crashed on me Hey I just looked at that site and I'm going to download that software and see if it will work on my blue screen computer.

Rich

can you put an image from an external drive on the a computer that has been cleaned reformated

I had problems with my vista (blue code error when starting.

I tried to use window 7 to fix it well it did boot however after putting my recovery cd in it still does no work right.

Therfore I have decide to reformat computer (just wipe it clean.

I still have a image of my computr on a external hard when it was working properly.

I use the image software to do that.

What software would I use to format my drive?

Then how can I get the image from my external drive onto my computer with no operating system?

My Computer

Yes you can but be aware that you cannot format if you boot into the OS, you must boot from a DVD. Make sure that Bios is set to boot from the DVD and not the Hard Drive. Assuming that you do not have a Vista DVD, you can create a recovery DVD to get to the System Recovery Options and the command prompt, to format.
Regarding question number 2, I may be able to assist if you tell me what software was used. May I suggest if not using Macrium Reflect, you do so in the future. It is the recommendation of most at the fourm and is excellent software. In addition many members can offers assistance on its use.

Rich

I do had a dvd vista recovery disk that I purchase from HP. However after trying to perform a system recovery it still isnt right.

It keeps restarting and the only icon I have is recycle Bin. i notice that it does not have a c and d drive as i was when it was working. D was the recovery drive.

If I could just drag the image over to the compuer from the external drive then I assume that would work. However d c does not show on the actual computer.

The image software I have is called DiskImage by laplink

Hey ow about I install the trail widows 7 and then transfer the image on my exter diver to the compuer to retores my computer back to what it was.

Rich i just talk to a guy at home depot in the tech department. He told me I need to get a copy of the full version of vista to load on my computer to be able to transfer the image back on to my computer.

have any ideal where I can get a copy of that full version of vista

It would be hard to get, today, other than torrents. I do not suggest that you go that route. If you did I am sure you will get a lot more than Vista

You may be forced to buy a Windows 7 upgrade for about $120 American.

If you know someone with Vista, you can use their DVD, if the same edition and platform (bits) if you have a valid key.

I do have a windows 7 upgrade

I don't know that will fix the problem or not. however if it does will i be able to image put the image form my external drive on my computer. This will change it back to vista whih willbe good.

This is my suggetion. If you have a 7 upgrade. Back up your stuff. Just documents, pics etc.
Then upgrade to Windows 7 and then put your stuff back.

Then, with backup software, back up the entire HD.

Then you will be all set.

I was able to get a vista home premium 64-bit. The question is how doI get my Vista home Premium 32-bit image back on the sytem the way it was using diskimage by Laplink.

Keepin mind that the 32-bit came with the computer when I purchase it. Therfore it is not a full version.

I want to get it back like it was (proroms, file, etc) with the back up image I have on a external Drive.

Can it b done? If so How?

Thanks

My Computer

I am not familiar with diskimage, but if you made a boot CD, use it. If successful, you will come to a screen with further instructions.
