Solved persistent issue with explorer.exe

PC annoying me

I tried the sfc command prompt and it fixed some issues, ran chkdisc and fixed whatever but I'm still having a persistent issue with explorer.exe (or some other file I got no clue) causing my programs to "not responding" over and over again.

Each system restore I have done past SP2 installation has caused the same issue to arise for me after putting the files back. I don't want to have to resort to do a reinstall for the 5th time!!! for the same thing to happen - I've saved all System Restore, each time even the manual system restore I do to let myself know when I put the programs in, any ideas?

Also my PC came with uhm I think it's called OEM? it's a HP comp with a recovery thing on my computer, no disc that came with SP1 so windows update has to download a bunch of updates, so I got a ?.

# Question: Is it normal that once it's up to date with the update that when I run a registry program it has over 1800!! errors even CCleaner has the same amount when running that, is that normal? omg.

# Last Question: If i make a recovery disc from the HP thing it offers to create, Can i reformat the HD (I'm assuming here that I can truly get a clean install due to having to reinstall 5 times!!! already) then running the disc + updates along with diskcheck and sfc?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, sorry for long post, I'm pretty angry at the moment as I've never had this happen to me even after having been using my pc for the past 3 years up till last week when i decided to reinstall... now i regret doing it...

I took over the explorer.exe and it seems to be ok so far - but I wanted to know if its safe doing that and taking over other exe/dll files?

Im still getting some lagging is there anyone that can help? I searched google and here but no answers as to the reason it occurs, cpu isn't being used up allot but still get lag and "not responding" but not as much after i took over using the ake ownership, ran malwarebytes and no malwares - Im really at a loss on what to do.

Do not pay any attention to the registry programs that claim that many errors!
We do not recommend using registry cleaners. Here's a link to an article about this (written for XP, it also applies equally to Vista and Win7): XP Fixes Myth #1: Registry Cleaners - Windows BBS

The HP recovery disks will allow you to format the Hard Drive and will put the computer back to the state it was in the day it left the factory.

If you format with the HP recovery disks and still have problems - then it's got to be either a hardware problem with the computer, or a problem with something outside of the computer.

What do you mean on outside of the computer? I really hope that it's not hardware problems with my PC - I'd just go buy a mac so I won't have to go thru this PC error nonsense.

I decided to just reinstall the whole thing for a 6th time - I am being careful to check any issues - I'm lead to believe it might be due to Spyware Doctor by PC tools (Using malwarebytes, thxs to this site) after installing it after it stalled when i shutdown as I always do when i put in a new program and that freaked me out so i uninstalled it and it went back to being super fast again shutdown and no lag.

Currently trying to install windows update but I'am being careful what goes in there, I also have a strong hunch the SP2 package from windows update (currently on SP1 still and very apprehensive to update it but I need to, need it for a program) or the patches afterwords might be the cause - I sincerely hope the issue does not return.

You guys sure on registry? I have noticed it giving increase in boot-ups when checking errors so I can't be really sure on these claims. I've read about the pros/cons/rumors of them prior before deciding to try them out, I use registry mechanic by PC tools & CCleaner at times, I always save the registry for a month before deleting it, anyways thxs for both the registry link and replying, I'll read it after posting this.

I have suffered through the registry problems myself - that's why I'm so adamant about not using a registry cleaner. It took me forever just to figure out that the registry cleaner was causing my problems (and this was the Microsoft regclean).

Outside the computer means anything that's not inside the case, such as network problems caused by a bad cable or a bad router (just an example).

Does the problem occur when you restore the HP software (from the recovery disks) only?

My Computer

The problem was still occurring throughout each system restore which I did not understand why at all because at specific system restore I check each situation by opening multiple programs, CS5, itunes, 8 windows in firefox, avast, malware, sidebar, widgets, and a mkv movie.

After all that it kept it up with no issues kept doing that till i reached the final hurdle of putting my music files back and creating a system restore it would suddenly happen again, There's no infection according to avast or malware in my music files or any temp folders, system/system32 folders so I dunno what's up.

When i tried to go back with a prior restore the problem would still be there like it can travel in time or something then on a specific restore I named before installing my programs it did not allow me and said the HD or do a chkdsk I cant remember, after I did it it still wouldn't let me do it and left me no choice but to clean install once again.

I cleaned the inside of my PC for any dirt and such, I do hardware testing passed all of them so don't think its a hardware issue - I still can't figure out why explorer.exe kept doing it.
I searched allot of forums for explorer.exe problems and did the steps to find a solution but nothing worked been at this almost 2 weeks now...

In the update listings I see I can install Search Index 4.0 and read that it slows my performance and It was doing it allot when my PC was in great shape since buying it new despite having already indexed the files such as Picture folder, it would do it again and cause the green bar to load s l o w . . . (annoying me) so I'm definitely not going to install that.

I read the article you supplied to me and it did make sense to me that redoing the registry after sometime has passed will conflict with the new data and the old one. What I don't understand is what about errors that say for example: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WINEVThs\[21b7c16e-c blah blah (damn it's long) and are marked High Priority with red marking, shouldn't those be fixed? it's from a Deep Scan, got about 590 of them after installing another set of SP1 updates.

aye it was explorer.exe not that crap internet explorer - problem is resolved with the 6th clean install & careful monitoring of what updates are going in - I dunno how to mark the thread as "resolved."
