Laptop is rebooting a lot...

Hello, within the last two weeks my laptop has been rebooting on its self at least a few times every day, though it almost seems like it's getting a lot worse. The laptop is an Acer that's about three years old (model: 5520-5865)... when it comes back from rebooting on its self (sometimes it doesn't! I have to shut it off since it's frozen in the reboot and when I turn it back on it tells me Windows failed to start) - anyway when it reboots and comes back it'll tell me the computer had an unexpected error involving minidump. Even when I leave it closed overnight in hibernation mode when turn it on it'll tell me Windows didn't get turned off properly.

The error isn't always the same, but often looks like this:

The errors vary. But over-all they look like that.

I think this all started happening when I plugged in an external hard drive (My Passport Essential SE, 750 BGs - by WD); since then I've tried to uninstall its components (I installed the software that came with the hard drive) but it still seems to be there... basically, I'm wondering if there's a way to undo this (should I go to a reset date?) - or if maybe the hardware being installed isn't even related to the computer restarting.

One thing I noticed today was that when I was in the Windows Experience Index it told me there was new hardware installed and to redo the Index for a more accurate rating - I did and my graphics rating fell from 3.1 to 3.0 ... err, that was strange.

I also tried updating the computer (I had auto updates turned off) but that didn't do anything, it still reboots on its own. I also ran a disk check but that didn't come up with anything.

If I was to reinstall Vista would that solve the problem?

If you have any idea about what's going on here, or any suggestions, I'd love to here them! :) I recently got a desktop computer and I've plugged in the same external hard drive to it with no strange errors - though I didn't install the programs that came with it...

OH! Also, when I go in Network and Sharing Center, 99% of the time explorer crashes. This issue happened once before and when I took it in, the tech dude had to reload Vista, they didn't know what was causing the problem. Could it be related...? I was creating and deleting dial-up networks when I was on a trip recently so it might have to do with that and not be related to the random rebooting since the computer was rebooting before the Network crashing explorer started acting up again.
