licorice powder

New Member
hi i'm running a acer aspire x1700 e5300

and there is a frequent bsod for whatever i do, be it surfing the net or running basic games like solitare. It even hangs on startup or when i'm in the middle of anything.
I suspect its a drivers problem. can anyone kindly help on the issue.

when it crashes, it somehow saves some stuff on the minidump,
so I've attached the minidump file below. could anyone pls help?

thx

KERNEL_MODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000008e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: c0000005, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: 954d8af6, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: 8bfa1b34, Trap Frame
Arg4: 00000000

You have given me one dump report. It indicates a hardware error. In this situation and with the facts given, one report is not sufficient. It will take several reports to really nail the cause. Until we get the additional reports. Lets check the most common hardware problem, memory. In the future give me all the reports as each gives a little clue to the cause.
Download memtest86 and test RAM
www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/105647-ram-test-memtest86.html
Run for 8 passes
If passes try a good stick in each slot for 3 passes
If fails do the same for 8 passes.

We will also focus on trying to update drivers. Although you do not break the record for the most, you may break the record for one of the oldest.

I have helped you with the two oldest since it might have been difficult to find information on them.
The last one looks like Nvidia driver.

How to Find Drivers
search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone - will help you search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- - if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.
- The most common drivers are listed on this page: http://www.carrona.org/dvrref.html
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: http://www.carrona.org/drvrdown.html
and here

To remove any left over driver remnants, especially from graphics cards, use driver sweeper

OK, I took a quick look at the additional dump reports. They showed variours causes, some showed inconclusive, others showed various drivers. This usually shows that we were on the right track. Looks like hardware or drivers. So, start with the advice that was given in my first post.
