Freeze on screen saver and standby

When ever my laptop starts my screen saver or goes to standby it completely freezes. It started happening a few weeks ago.
Sometimes if freezes right before starting either. Sometimes it freezes immediately after starting. Sometimes it freezes as soon as I exit them.
On a few rare occasions it doesn't freeze.

Is it a screen saver that came with Vista or did you download it from somewhere?
It is common for viruses to be in screen savers.
Try a MalwareBytes scan

Malwarebytes

Free version is all you need.

I already have scanned for malware and found nothing. It was a downloaded one at first but then i tried using one of the original screen savers and it still froze. After that I turned off my screen saver completely and let it go onto standby instead but it still froze.

OK, go to start search box and type cmd, hold shift and ctrl and press enter.
In the box that opens type sfc /scannow
This will check your system files and repair any faulty files it can.
You may have to run it up to 3 times if it finds any corruptions
It may only fix some each pass.

How many passes did you do.
To view the report open the cmd prompt again and cut and paste this into it and press enter.

notepad C:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log

It will open notepad and show the log.

I only ran it once, but I ran it another 2 times and still am getting the same message.
I looked at the report but it's huge and I don't know what I'm looking for.

you could save it to your desktop, Zip it up and attach it to your next post.
Someone here will be able to give you an idea of what to look into next.
